 2011 CLINICAL FACULTY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL TEACHING
________________________________________________________________________

CONCEPT OF AWARD:

To recognize excellence in teaching by Clinical Faculty members.

Three awards are available. Each award consists of a certificate, an honorarium of $1000, and
public recognition at the Faculty of Medicine Awards reception. Efforts will also be made to
publicize the achievement of the recipients. The names of the winners will be published on the
Faculty of Medicine website and on the Office of Clinical Faculty Affairs website.

ELIGIBILITY:

These awards are open to all Clinical Faculty members appointed in the Faculty of Medicine in
one of the clinical departments or professional schools.

JUDGING CRITERIA: (these must be addressed in the nomination letter/package)

Candidates should have a record over several years of excellent teaching performance.

The awards will be based upon excellence in teaching as evidenced by evaluations of students
and/or residents and/or peers.

Consideration will be given to the development of effective teaching methods or materials for
clinical teaching and to course development.

The above criteria are broadly stated to allow the award to reflect the unique qualities that
contribute to the excellence of different clinical teachers. Some excellent teachers provide a life-
long inspiration to students and have a profound effect on their motivation to learn in particular
areas or pursue a particular career. Some stimulate students’ clinical problem solving or critical
appraisal skills, some are most influential in students’ acquisition of clinical knowledge and skills,
and others employ highly innovative teaching methods

NOMINATION PROCEDURE:

Nomination can be made by any Clinical Faculty or full-time faculty member, medical student,
resident or any other student in a program within the Faculty of Medicine that involves clinical
teaching.

Nominators are required to complete all documentation and submit the completed nomination
package (and 5 copies) to the awards committee no later than February 25, 2011.

For consideration, the nomination package should include the following:

       instructional role; contribution and why the candidate should be chosen to receive this
       award (see criteria above).

      excellence of the candidate in his or her instructional role. Examples of such documentation
      are:

         solicited by the nominator;

       A description of innovative teaching strategies;
       Curriculum vitae
