                   AMANDA CARR, Vocalist

h itting the national Billboard Charts with her big
band release, Common Thread, vocalist Amanda
Carr has enjoyed stellar reviews and global press.
Legendary journalist, Nat Hentoff penned yet another
page of accolades in the Wall Street Journal touting
Amanda’s musical talent and accomplishments as well
as garnering rousing support for her not-for-profit
venture, “American Big Band Preservation Society.”
The Society is an organization that looks to preserve
not only big band music, but also to carry on her
     parents’ musical legacy.
Amanda’s personal journey began at an early age when she attended the South
Shore Conservatory of Music in Hingham, MA, and began performing pop music
as a singer/pianist in local clubs in the Boston area when she was a young teen.
As she attempted to stay on the classical music path at the University of Lowell,
her public performances were steeped in rock and pop and she eventually
changed from music education to focus on marketing and other more traditional
career opportunities while maintaining her music as an avocation.
In the late 1980’s she lived in New York and then Los Angeles to support her
Grammy nominated fiancé’s career. When he was killed in a plane crash (Reba
McIntyre’s band) in 1991, she returned to Boston where she filled in for some of
her mother’s big band performances. Soon Amanda realized that the jazz and
big band genre offered far more appeal than when she was younger, and she
quickly gravitated to performing and recording fresh interpretations of the Great
     American Songbook.
She met and married her Emmy award winning husband in the mid 1990’s
and, with him, has created and recorded many commercials, video projects and
documentaries, one for which she was nominated an Emmy in 1998. Amanda’s
multi-faceted musical persona finds her in a variety of different performance
situations: rock bands, small intimate jazz clubs and large scale venues with
backing orchestras. Her accessibility and enthusiasm makes it easy for her to fit
in with the Concord Band, both musically and as an honorary member. Amanda
feels that this is a family environment and, with all she has going on, performing
with the Concord Band feels like coming home.
