                     Get S.M.A.R.T.!
H igh-tech supply chain management has come to BFG! We call it S.M.A.R.T. Business.
S.M.A.R.T. stands for Supply Management Advantages in Real Time. What all that
means is that we’re turning the ordering process and our inventory management system into
a seamless flow of information between suppliers, customers, and ourselves.

In its simplified form, our goal with S.M.A.R.T. is to improve the speed and accuracy of
information through the life of an order, resulting in no surprises at the customer level. In
even simpler form, it just means that we’re taking the guesswork out of product distribution
to ensure that you receive the product you need when you need it.

Orders for our customers can now be entered by our field sales team through their hand-
held S.M.A.R.T. Assistant devices. In the field, our team can also check inventory avail-
ability, order status, and other details on the fly. Orders then immediately flow through our
internal system to the branch or manufacturer. Now, however, our S.M.A.R.T. Connect
system allows us to automatically notify customers by whatever means they select — e-mail,
fax, text message, or phone call — about order confirmation, changes in order status, and
    ship dates.

Customers can even select their own contact with whom BFG will communicate. Then
when any information regarding an order needs to be communicated, the customer’s desig-
nated personnel will automatically receive their update.

S.M.A.R.T. Link is the vendor portion of the program in which they can link directly into
BFG’s business system via a custom website to acknowledge purchase orders, update ship
dates, and view open issues. We will constantly be measuring our vendors’ performance and
reporting it to them as well as internally within BFG. We will use this information to work
together to continually improve service to our customers.

S.M.A.R.T. Choice rounds out the program at this time with a means by which to gauge
service standards. S.M.A.R.T. Choice vendors will have exceeded specified customer service
criteria. We will make certain our customers know who these vendors are. It is all part of our
larger commitment to bring the most value possible to you.
