Scientific and/or technological challenges. Problems to be solved. Overall goals and expected output.

3.2 State of international research in the field
Objectives of international research, priorities, solution pathways followed so far, open questions. Include
relevant references.

3.3 State of own research in the field, prestudies
Previous work of applicants. Indicate major results and highlights of the past 5 years. Include relevant
references to publications or reports. Describe preliminary work already undertaken.

3.4 Research plan summary
Proposed experimental approaches and methods, expected results. Identify different tasks where appropriate.

Clarify what makes this project unique and why should it be addressed within CCES. Explain the added value of
the project in terms of addressing inter-disciplinary key questions, and mobilizing a critical mass of scientific
excellence by the project consortium. Indicate adherence to the CCES defining criteria, and in particular the
societal relevance, either as a goal to be achieved during the project duration or with an identified follow-up
