disabled people is that they can:

• Empower users and informal carers
• Provide Independence
• Improve quality of life
• Monitor health conditions

  – Maintaining Safety and Security
  – Automating tasks
  – Communication (external and internal/memory etc)
  – Proximity / Motion (PIR) sensing
  – Fall Detection
  – Assistance with food preparation and storage (fridge)
  – Unobtrusive ADL (activity) monitoring and
    Assessment
  – Vital Signs Monitoring

Telecare and Telemedicine
• Telecare
The ability to use technology to support people in their
own homes and monitor their activity externally.
Information is sent to call centres who respond to
potential threats to the person highlighted by the system
• Telemedicine
The remote delivery of medical services, by the use of
Internet or other remote links. Telemedicine can range
from remote diagnosis by a doctor from symptoms
verbally described to the transmission of detailed x-ray
or photographic images by a nurse to a doctor back at
the surgery or hospital. The development of
telemedicine in likely become expanded greatly in the
  future.

Inclusive Design and “smart”
Homes
• There is little point designing technology
to support someone if the structure and
  domestic environment is inappropriate.
• Similarly, if the technology is inappropriate
  it will not be used.
