Welcome back, hope you all had a restful Easter break.

Welcome to the Summer Term CPD newsletter. The aim of this newsletter is to update you with the latest
CPD news. It will also keep you informed about any CPD opportunities and ideas which may benefit members
of your school workforce. Don’t forget that you can also get a constant update from our CPD website, which
you may also find useful.

CPD Coordinators Conference - free of charge

TDA/ NRT New Professional Development Project– opportunity to help shape a
national programme
The TDA/ NRT is currently engaged in a project to improve Professional Development training and guidance.
As part of their initial research they are carrying out a series of workshops across the country. The idea is that
they meet with a range of practitioners so that they can develop Professional Development guidance and
training based on best and effective practice. One such workshop will be carried out in our region at HTI,

TDA/NRT are looking for a cross section of people – headteachers, line managers, teachers, support staff
from Primary/ Secondary/ Special with experience of best practice in performance management linked with

Teacher Standards
Following the TDA review of the teacher standards in February, new standards should be ready for you to use
by September. The TDA is also developing standards for the Excellent Teacher, which will also be available
from September. For further information please look at the TDA website.


Well-Being Programme
After the success of the Well-Being Programme with 5 pilot Dudley schools, schools are now able to take part
in a streamlined Well-Being Programme being rolled out nationally in partnership, and subsidised by the
Health and Safety Executive. The Programme is a sustainable process for staff and organisational
development which adds value to and compliments workplace counselling and employee assistant
programmes, plus enables schools to demonstrate they have met their duty of care under Health & Safety

staff you wish to involve.

CPD Website – your input
We are currently updating One particular area that we are developing is called
‘CPD Providers.’ At present we are trying to build up a list of independent CPD providers that you’ve used and
would like to recommend to others. If you have any that you would like to add to our list please e-mail details

Learning from practice – NCSL conference 22 June at the ICC
The conference will focus on learning from practice in educational collaboratives. As this is the final year of
the Networked Learning Communities programme, this will be an ideal opportunity for you to share the
learning from your network with colleagues from other educational partnerships including the Primary National
Strategy Learning Networks, Educational Improvement Partnerships, networks focussed around extended
schools or Specialist Schools and those interested in forming federations.

Schools Library Services – CPD for staff with responsibility for your school library
The schools library service offers bespoke CPD for individuals who have responsibility for the school library.
The service can offer CPD linked to the following topics - book classification, book selection, management
and how to run a library resource centre, information skills programmes and writing of library related policy

Trading places – FREE CPD opportunity
An exciting CPD opportunity is now available for Dudley teaching staff. Trading Places is aimed at providing
teachers within their first five years with a practical CPD experience in another setting. All supply costs will be
paid by the School Workforce Team and currently there is funding for 20 individuals enabling 10 trades. Any
organisation and administration will be completed for you. This project has already worked very effectively in
several neighbouring authorities and is having a positive impact on professional development.

FREE OF CHARGE – opportunity for Accredited Action Research at UCE
The following opportunity has arisen for all Dudley teaching staff. To qualify for the free tuition fees, enrolling

NQT CD ROM support materials - Feedback
This year has been the first attempt to bring together information in one place so that you and your NQTs
have one-stop access to supporting materials. The CD ROM for NQTs and Induction Tutors and the link
through the CPD web-site has been put together by Rachel Knowles at Westox House.
We would appreciate feedback as to how we can improve this to meet your needs. Please would you email

NQT Induction Tutors course – University of Wolverhampton
This postgraduate opportunity is designed to strengthen skills, knowledge and understanding of the induction
process. It also counts as 30 credits towards an M-level module. It costs £350. Anyone who is interested or

Certificate in Emotional Literacy Development – Saltwells
This is an invitation to join a group of like minded people and achieve the distinction of gaining a Post-
Graduate level certificate in Emotional Literacy Development. It costs £850 plus VAT. For further information
