COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
(Committee appointments are done on a yearly basis.)
Awards Committee
Review and consider nominations for all awards, including the following: the Honorary Master
of Photography Degree, Helen K. Yancy Award, and Honorary Member Awards.
Recommendations are referred to the Board of Directors and Council for final approval.
Bylaws, Rules & Ethics Committee
Prepare wording for changes in the bylaws and rules as directed. Interpret existing bylaws when
necessary. Review bylaws and rules for necessary changes to recommend to Board and Council.
Conduct preliminary investigations and due process hearings as necessary for referred matters
regarding ethics.
Certification Commission
Certify professional-quality photographers to the general public by providing credentialing
services (which meet the national standards for credentialing organizations) to professional
photographic associations, their members, and individual professional photographers, including
photographers who are not members of an Alliance of Visual Artists (AVA) related association.
Convention Committee
Solicit and organize volunteer convention assistants. Maintain a props/equipment area and
control distribution. Ensure that any speaker/program-confirmed equipment, props, and models
are available, in place, and functioning correctly—according to schedule. Provide on-site liaison
between the Events Department and speakers.
Finance Committee
Work with committee structure to prepare an annual budget, monitor and control finances,
recommend names of auditors to the Board of Directors, and report to Board and Council on
financial position.
Industry Advisory Committee
Provide the Board of Directors with industry perspective on PPA programs and events.
International Committee
Enhance the prestige of PPA throughout the world. Review the needs of international members
to promote cooperation between PPA domestic and international members and the corporate
world. Review applications for international affiliation, and advise the MAC Committee and the
Board of Directors.
Investment Committee
Oversee the investments of the corporation, and make recommendations so that the investments
fall under the criteria as prescribed by the Board of Directors.
Nominating Committee
Select nominees who have the experience and the qualities that meet the needs of the
organization. Interview prospective nominees personally by telephone, and secure their consent
to serve if elected. Prepare a report containing the names of the nominees, their experience and
qualifications, and the reasons that the committee feels the candidates named can meet these
needs. Submit the report for publication to Council, and present it verbally at its annual meeting.
OurPPA.com Committee
Police the activities of the subscribers. Make sure the rules of the OurPPA Forum are followed.
Review and update the rules that govern the site.
PPA Charities
Promote and enhance the charitable giving of PPA’s membership.
Photographic Exhibitions Committee (PEC)
Annually review judging rules and recommend changes to the Board of Directors. Review fees
annually and recommend changes to the Board. Annually conduct the judging for those
categories assigned to PEC by the Board of Directors. Display and promote images that are
considered suitable for such purposes.
Speaker Advisory Committee
Review, suggest, and provide oversight for speakers with staff for Imaging USA and other
conferences (as getting speakers can be a dynamic process). Speakers will be suggested as far out
as possible to give staff enough time to contact prospective speakers. The committee will also
provide oversight for "short-notice” speakers, such as those by sponsors who are reluctant to
commit to a speaker until shortly before an event.
