                              CHAPTER DIRECTOR THOUGHTS
As I sit here writing this newsletter I realize that our District Rally/Convention is here. Many of us
will be leaving soon in order to take in a ride in the Black Hills. This Rally will be a great opportunity
to ride in the Hills and also to attend some early morning seminars. Yes, I know that we all know
how to ride and we all do that well. But what if we forgot just one little thing that could cause severe
injury or worse. Sometimes it is just wise to brush up on what we already know. At any rate I hope
that you have a safe ride out, a safe ride back home and a lot of safe miles in between.

                                         CHAPTER NEWS
Wow, we had a great turnout at Jerry’s Hilltop for our May gathering. There were 43 in
attendance. The Chapter again wants to thank our hosts for the great brownies and ice cream.
Our hosts were Gary and Paulette Gross, Harley and Deb Holmes, Rita Peterson and Dallas
Risling. The brownies were mmm mmm …. Good. Thanks again.
                                                                                 st
Two brave souls, (Jerry Uhing and myself) headed to Brandon on the 21 of May for “Dogs
in the Park”. Even though it had rained earlier in the AM the day looked promising and it ended
up being a very nice day and when the wind came up a little later in the day we made some
adjustments for the wind. Not a drop of rain was felt by either of us the whole day. Bike

                                          June 2011 page 1
competitions were held in the park and two bikes got into the finals in the slow ride. They were
both the H brand, one was a Harley and the other a Goldwing. It took 5 passes to determine a
winner. The winner was Larry W. on a Goldwing, which was owned by Earl D. as Larry just got
out of work, and stopped in the park… the rest is HISTORY. After the competitions were over
Gold Plated Wing Nuts being used as trophies were presented. Jerry U. got one of these for
riding the longest distance to the event. I am sure he will be more than happy to show you his
WingNut.
Our Ditch Walk had to be cancelled due to weather and other related incidents and has been
                         th
rescheduled for the 18 of June. We will meet at Jerry’s Hilltop at 10am and “GIT-R-DID. Please
wear pants and bring gloves, you may want to wear boots too. If the weather says that we can’t
do it that day we will then pick another day. We will send out an email if it will be cancelled. If
you are planning to attend and do not have email just let Dallas know and he will give you a call.
Mike Cornett joined us for the gathering, this was probably his last gathering and the Chapter
thanked him for being a great sponsor. As you probably all know Mike, Leah and Maddie are
moving to Alabama. Again we want to wish him and his family all the best. THANKS MIKE and
FAMILY.
Just a reminder when you go to the Black Hills or any other place, take pictures and get them
to Cindi for placement in our Chapter scrapbook. Just in case you were not at the gathering,
Duane S. has a special on the second chance tickets. If and when you see him you will have to
find out what the special was. Thank you Duane.
CHANGE! CHANGE! CHANGE! OUR JUNE GATHERING WILL BE ON THE

22 OF JUNE INSTEAD OF THE 15 because our hosts will not returning home until after the
                               th
Rally/Convention on June 12 evening. THIS WILL BE A POTLUCK AND OUR HOSTS WILL

                                      RIDER EDUCATION
When you get on your Goldwing you probably have planned your destination and possibly planned
your arrival time, what you will be doing after you arrive and maybe even when you will depart. Have you
considered planning on what you should be wearing when riding your Goldwing? Does what you wear
depend on only the weather or do you dress “for the slide not the ride”?
As the weather gets warmer we may take off some of our clothing to try to keep a little cooler, or wear
sneakers. We do not consider that if we “go down” is that we do want something between the pavement
and us. We all know that we pay attention, have many miles on the Wing, have taken Seminars, riding
courses and practiced and thought out the “what if” scenarios but sometime you may still “go down”.
We all know the excuses, “it’s too hot to wear all that stuff or I’m a good rider I won’t crash. I don’t
think anyone has ever known that they were going to be in a crash unless they are a stunt driver.
Here a few questions that only you will know the answer to. If I or someone I loved is in a motorcycle
crash consider these questions:
1. What do I want to be wearing on my legs? 2. What do I want on my feet?
         A. shorts A. Boots
         B. jeans B. Sandals
         C. protective pants C. Tennis shoes
3. What do I want on my torso? 4. What do I want on my hands?
         A. T-shirt A. Nothing
         B. Body-armor jacket or leather jacket B. Gloves
         C. Long sleeved shirt C. Gloves with finger cutouts
