                                                            Putting Hope in Sight

“Lifeline Express” is a purpose-built eye hospital train, equipped with the latest eye-
care medical facilities and technology, to offer free operations for poverty-stricken
cataract patients who reside in remote areas of mainland China. The first train started
its Mission of Light in July 1997 and the second and third Lifeline Express trains joined
this worthwhile project in 1999 and 2002 respectively. With three hospital eye-trains
now operating, around 11,000 free operations can be performed every year.

Cataracts normally occur only to the elderly, but in less privileged areas in mainland
China, many children have suffered from this disease since birth. Early treatment for
these cataract patients will enable them not only to regain their eyesight but also help
to relieve them from disability-induced poverty. To young patients, this is particularly
important as they will able to lead a healthy and normal life in the future.

To further extend our mission, Lifeline

              Message from the Chairman

The power of music is boundless. It soothes the mind and inspires hope. Our Musical
Moments also has the power to raise money for the blind who live in need in remote areas of
                                          mainland China.

“Lifeline Express” started its first mission of light in China on 1st July 1997. Since its
inception, the eye-hospital trains have completed 72 missions in 62 remote areas and over Ms. Shelley Lee, GBS, JP Mr. Bunny Chan, BBS, JP Mrs. Irene Yau, ISO
70,000 cataract patients have had their eyesight restored. Backed by support from many Vice Chairman Chairman Vice Chairman

quarters, “Lifeline Express” has fortunately been able to achieve quite a lot so far. Yet there
are still more than four million cataract patients in mainland China who need help.

Many of these patients will lose their sight permanently unless they get help soon. However,
these patients need not lose hope because the tremendous support from caring people like
you help keep the eye-hospital trains on track. Your donations will endow the patients with
a new lease of life, as well as help them regain a sense of dignity and self-confidence as
productive members of the family and the community.

Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber is arguably the most popular theatre composer of the late 20th Century. Born in 1948 in England, Lloyd Webber first gained success at the age Wright & Forrest (author)

Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Born George Forrest Chichester, Jr., he was also known professionally at times as Chet Forrest. Throughout his career he worked exclusively with the writer Robert Wright,
