PAAAA launches 2007                 The Peralta Association of African American Affairs (PAAAA) has launched its 2007
scholarship program; application    scholarship program to recognize African-American students who attend the Peralta
deadline—Mon., Apr. 16              colleges. One student at each Peralta college is selected for the $500 award. Can-
                                    didates must demonstrate academic achievements, leadership skills, and community
                                    service in the African American community. BCC students who wish to apply must
                                    submit a completed application packet by Mon., Apr. 16, to Ponnie Rasmussen, Rm.

Summer book orders due              Faculty who plan to teach summer classes should have their book order information to

                                    books you will use in the summer, or, if your chair is not responsible for book order

Classified Employee of Year         Nominations for the Constance L. Ormond Classified Employee of the Year Award,
nomonations due Thur., Apr. 5       which recognizes an exemplary classified staff member at each Peralta college, are
                                    due by Thur., Apr. 5. Applications should be submitted to Marilyn Clausen, Nancy
                                    Cayton, or Jasmine Martinez. Recent award recipients include Nancy Cayton (2006),
                                    Marilyn Clausen (2005), and John Pang (2004).

Chancellor’s Trophy                      Let your students know that the Chancellor’s Trophy deadline is Fri., Mar. 23. The
deadline is Fri., Mar. 23                scholarship recognizes academic performance, community service activities, and lead-
                                         ership. One student is selected from among the four Peralta colleges. Three-runner-
                                         ups, one from each college, also receive a trophy and a cash prize. Applications are
                                         available on the college’s scholarship board on the 1st floor, next to the Admissions
                                         Office. Submit all application materials directly to Nha Le in Rm. 143. For details,

BCC student wins $500                    Michael Birnberg is 2007 winner of Berkeley City College’s Tobacco Prevention
tobacco prevention art award             Art Contest, cosponsored by Health Through Art, Since 1989, Health Through Art,
                                         a Bay Area nonprofit organization which works to create positive social change by
                                         combining the power of creative expression and imagery with media. HTA works
                                         to counteract substance abuse, racism, violence, and stereotyping, while promoting
                                         wellness, recovery, and healthy decision-making for individuals and communities.
