One student at each Peralta college is selected for the $500 award. Can- didates must demonstrate academic achievements, leadership skills, and community service in the African American community. BCC student wins $500 Michael Birnberg is 2007 winner of Berkeley City College’s Tobacco Prevention tobacco prevention art award Art Contest, cosponsored by Health Through Art, Since 1989, Health Through Art, a Bay Area nonprofit organization which works to create positive social change by combining the power of creative expression and imagery with media. HTA works to counteract substance abuse, racism, violence, and stereotyping, while promoting wellness, recovery, and healthy decision-making for individuals and communities.
