Fundraising tip of the month Tip from AMA Foundation Committee Member Terry Rifkin: Looking for a novel fun way to fundraise for the AMA Foundation? Plan an evening of fun and entertainment and raise money for the AMA Foundation at the same time! The “Doctors in Recital” event marked a new venue for fundraising in Brown County. The event featured the musical talent of local physicians as performers, ranging from pianists, violinists, and vocalists to a group band. Plan your own Doctors' Talent Show, support the Alliance and the AMA Foundation and have a good time! For other fundraising ideas, visit the AMA Alliance website at www.amaalliance.org. Open Programs on the Home page, click on Fundraising, scroll down to Fundraising Resources, and check out more ideas under Fundraising Guide or click on Health Promotion, and scroll down to Project Bank. 4. Twenty-eight medical students and residents receive research grants The AMA Foundation announced the 28 recipients of the 2009 Seed Grant Research Program. The program provides grants of $2,500 to medical students, residents and fellows to conduct small basic science, applied, or clinical research projects. This year's award winners are doing research in cardiovascular/pulmonary diseases, HIV/AIDS, leukemia and neoplastic diseases. “We are excited to be able to help young physician investigators with their research endeavors,” said AMA Foundation president Jean Howard. “The AMA Foundation is committed to supporting the discoveries and professional development of scientists at the start of their careers.” To view a list of the recipients and their projects, click here. 5. Grant and Scholarship Recipients - In their own words The AMA Alliance and the AMA Foundation have a long history of supporting men and women who aspire to become physicians and healthy community endeavors. We hope the following quote inspires you and help your efforts to support fundraising for the Alliance and Foundation. “I very much appreciate your support of me personally and your dedication to helping all medical students fulfill their goals. I will soon begin a pediatrics residency and hope to become a physician who works with underserved populations – a career that can often be difficult when faced with a heavy debt burden. However, your generous gift will go a long way in allowing me to achieve my goals. I am truly thankful for your support.” Monica Patton University of Vermont College of Medicine 2008 Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship Recipient $10,000 scholarship 6.
