Mizuno will Work to Meet Society’s
“Attack and Defend” CSR Initiatives to
Prepare for a Quantum Leap
The 21st Olympic Winter Games, held in February 2010 in
Vancouver, Canada, brought together athletes from 82 countries
and regions. As an official partner of the Japanese Olympic
Committee, Mizuno provided the Japanese delegation with official
sportswear and bags. In addition, we offered speed skating suits
(which became a popular topic of conversation) and other
competition apparel for athletes of seven events. Ever since the
eighth Summer Olympic Games held in 1924 in Paris, Mizuno has
continued to provide Japanese Olympic teams with sportswear and
sporting goods, in line with our corporate philosophy: Contributing
to society through the advancement of sporting goods and the
promotion of sports.
During fiscal 2009, upholding the business slogan “Attack and
Defend,” we took various defensive measures to cut costs and
reduce inventory levels in response to the lingering global
recession, while at the same time preparing ourselves to seize

Official victory baseball, launched on Mizuno’s centennial
In 1906, Mizuno began its business by marketing baseballs. Over a century since then, Mizuno’s
business has been growing in tandem with the development of baseball and other sports. Rihachi
Mizuno, the founder of Mizuno Corporation, loved sports, particularly baseball. Adhering to his words,
“Go on and Create a-mon,” Mizuno has been producing innovative sporting goods and apparel with
outstanding functions and quality. Throughout the past century, we have developed our business in
line with our corporate philosophy: Contributing to society through the advancement of sporting goods
and the promotion of sports. At Mizuno, all our business activities are essentially CSR activities.
Focusing on baseball among the diverse sports that Mizuno is promoting, this feature article will
introduce Mizuno’s continued efforts to promote baseball and to develop better baseball goods.

To ensure compliance with Japan’s Companies Act, which took effect on May 1, 2006, Mizuno adopted the Basic Policy on
Internal Control Systems at the meeting of the Board of Directors held on May 11, 2006. At the Board meeting of May 9, 2008,
directors decided to establish the Risk Management Committee to promote risk management across the Group, and to revise
the Basic Policy, in response to the establishment of the Internal Control Reporting System Committee, whose role is to ensure
the reliability of our financial statements. At Mizuno we regard these internal control systems as essential for enhancing

To fulfill their social corporate responsibility, companies need to ensure that every employee complies with laws and
regulations and corporate ethics in all business activities. Regarding compliance with laws and corporate ethics as a top
priority for the promotion of CSR, Mizuno has adopted its own “Ethical Standards” and “Code of Conduct,” so that all its
employees can carry out their work based on common values and standards of behavior. To maintain these principles, we
make continuous efforts to provide our employees with education and training to enhance their awareness of compliance.

to the realization of a “sustainable society”
In 1991, Mizuno launched a campaign for conservation of the global environment named
“Crew 21.” “Crew 21,” an acronym of Conservation of Resources and Environmental Wave
21, is a project in which we play the roles of crew members of “Spacecraft Earth” and promote
activities to conserve resources and the environment. Since 2004 we have also been
engaged in improving labor conditions and ensuring respect for human rights at our Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Through active commitment to the realization of a “sustainable society” in cooperation with
various stakeholders while creating happy workplaces to develop vital human resources and
improve corporate competitiveness, we aim to become a company needed by society on this

Staff’s Voice
I am responsible for the work concerning intellectual property rights relevant to newly developed
products, including application/survey for patents, designs and trademarks and external
negotiations. Along with the efforts of achieving the company-wide goal of increased ratio of
environmentally friendly products in sales, the number of patent applications for related products
is expected to rise and thus the number of decisions to be made and matters to be discussed is
also expected to increase substantially. I am sure that each case I will handle is important and I
may sometimes face difficulties, but taking this opportunity as a chance to expand my business
capability, I hope to use intellectual properties to promote our environmentally friendly products.
