FERRARI DAYTONA SPIDER
REPLICA

The Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona is
considered by many to be one of the
finest Ferraris of all. The last and
fastest of the front engined, V-12
powered two-seaters, its stunning
Pininfarina styling is instantly
recognisable and the tenacious road
holding and superb performance are
equally impressive. Excluding competition cars, the rarest version of the
Daytona, the GTS/4 Spider - outnumbered by the coupé by 10 to 1 - has
rightly become a collectors’ icon. With just 127 examples built, 96 of which
were exported to the USA, genuine examples now change hands for in
excess of six figures. As with many exotic motor cars, a number of replicas
of the original have been produced. Amongst the better copies of the
Daytona Spider are the LR Roadster cars.

This example was built by Roger Calman Racing during 1994/95, using a V-
12 Jaguar as a donor car, and has been in the custody of one owner for the
past eight years, during which time it has recorded approximately 13,500
miles. Finished in Rosso Corsa, with a recreation of the original’s leather
interior in beige hide, this replica uses many original components, including
the screen and retractable headlights, and sits on the correct style 5-spoke
alloy wheels. Visually, the car is virtually indistinguishable from the real
thing and, with the Jaguar mechanicals, it is far simpler and more economic
to maintain. Described as in good to excellent order throughout, with all
instrumentation and equipment in working order, a 5-speed manual gearbox
is fitted and the black mohair hood is a replacement item.

Supplied with the car are a V5 document, service records and an MOT
certificate valid to July 2004. For many the real thing will never be any
more than a pipe dream. However, at around a tenth of the price of even a
converted coupé, this replica must surely represent a significant amount of
style for a reasonable expenditure.
