Three projects were selected in Oregon, including the Newport project, proposed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, which received $699,000 to employ off-season commercial fishermen to remove 180 metric tons of derelict crab pots and other fishing gear along the Oregon coast. “This funding will employ fishermen in the off-season in green jobs that will stimulate the economy while creating healthier coastal communities,” said Lubchenco. “Every season, thousands of crab traps, lines and buoys are lost off the Oregon Coast. They can trap marine wildlife as well as cause boating hazards. We expect the project will help us remove more than 4,000 lost crab pots, lines and other marine debris from Oregon’s coastal waters.” Other projects include a restoration project in Eugene, Ore., which received $1.6 million to restore and enhance 21 acres and two miles of the Willamette River riparian and wetland (001) Legislative Branch (005) Department of Agriculture (006) Department of Commerce (007) Department of Defense--Military (018) Department of Education (019) Department of Energy (009) Department of Health and Human Services (024) Department of Homeland Security (025) Department of Housing and Urban Development (010) Department of the Interior (011) Department of Justice (012) Department of Labor (014) Department of State (021) Department of Transportation (015) Department of the Treasury (029) Department of Veterans Affairs (202) Corps of Engineers-Civil Works (020) Environmental Protection Agency (023) General Services Administration (184) International Assistance Programs (026) National Aeronautics and Space Administration (422) National Science Foundation (028) Small Business Administration (016) Social Security Administration (485) Corporation for National and Community Service (356) Federal Communications Commission (417) National Endowment for the Arts (446) Railroad Retirement Board (539) Recovery Act Accountability and Transparency Board (452) Smithsonian Institution
