Strategic Human Capital (SHC) Group Activity Develop a creative human capital plan in an actual organization that will be presented as an oral presentation with a written paper to be submitted on the sixth week of class. This paper (APA Style) should address the historical and current issues facing this organization and what is proposed to ensure a viable strategic human capital plan for the future. Each team member will present for a total of 30 minutes per team. Objective: SHC has implications for the policies and practices of organizations in general, and human resource management and leadership in particular. This assignment is intended to aid the students in developing a comprehensive understanding of what is entailed in developing a strategic human capital plan. This assignment is also intended to aid the students in developing an understanding of the issues facing organizations as well as to identify human capital best practices through the application of principles and concepts that can be applied to a real organization. Required Action: Working in self-organized teams, students will develop a comprehensive human capital plan for the organization of their choice. A structured format should be used and is outlined below. Students will develop a creative human capital plan in an actual organization that will be presented as an oral presentation with a written paper to be submitted on the sixth week of class. This paper should address the historical and current issues facing this organization and what is proposed/recommended to ensure a viable strategic human capital strategy for the future. The paper will include a detailed description of the current situation, a description of what the current situation lacks/adds in being consistent with the strategic human capital best practices and a description of what would be added/deleted/changed to make the implementation of the goal/objective more consistent with the strategic human capital best practices.. The paper will be due in final on the sixth week of class. Each team member will present for a total of 30 minutes per team. Structured Format Introduction- Brief Overview Background- Information about the organization Review of the Literature – Quote from articles, case studies and text to support your plan. Methodology – How you gathered information on the organization (ie: site visit, interviews, website etc.) The Plan – A strategic plan aligned with the organization’s mission and vision of what your team would recommend on how to address the human capital challenges the organization is facing. Discussion and Conclusion – Summary of the project and what each individual team member learned from the project. Deliverable(s): A hardcopy of a 10 – 15 page paper. An oral of presentation of not longer than 30 minutes in which each member of the team presents. This project will be presented and submitted on the sixth week of class. Grading: The paper will be graded on the following criteria for 25 pts: creativity, quality, accuracy to structure format and the practical application of the plan. The presentation will be graded on the following criteria for 5 pts: creativity, clarity and learning both from the point of view of the presenters as well as the audience.
