Introduction:
Throughout the University, development is provided by:

The purpose of this document is to create a quick reference guide as to what development is available /
planned throughout 2010. It is hoped that this document will prove helpful in PDR review meetings and
will also give useful links and contact details for further information.
If you have a development need which isn’t listed in the document, please get in touch with the relevant
provider to discuss further. Please note development can be in the form of workshops, seminar,
coaching, action learning sets or on-the-job training.
Organisational Development Programme:
The programme is run by the Organisational Development team, part of POD (people and
organisational development). Some courses are designed and delivered by the in-house HR or OD
team, others delivered by external deliverers. The programme is available, free of charge to any Heriot-
Watt staff members. Please discuss your participation with your line manager to ensure the
development is suitable for you and fits with your PDR before enrolling on a course.

IT Training


The taught courses will help you realise the potential of your software.
Courses vary in length from ½ a day to 2 days. Check the course duration/ dates and times carefully as
some courses may be spread over more than one day.

Drop-in sessions
Usually 1 session per week – where staff can come and get 121 help with a problem, or work on
something in the quiet of the IT Training room.
Certification options
We are an approved ECDL Testing centre and offer on-site certification opportunities at =equalskills,
ECDL and Advanced ECDL (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentation Graphics and Databases)

We also welcome enquiries from individuals or teams for customised training to meet local needs.
