WITHIN THE
ORGANIZATION

Two small cases
have been sited for
the purpose to
reveal,how urge of
an individual ie
individual IQ is able
to enhance the
collective IQ .How to
build up the capacity
of an
organization(IQ) to
achieve the desired
results same even in
larger organization.
            CASE
NO-1

The people of upper
Sirikhola,a remote
area in the
Darjeeling
hills,make an
arduous trek of 12
KM every few days,
not for their thrills
but to charge their
cellphones—their
only means staying
connected to the
outside world. Total
twenty people of the
village own mobile
phones.And they are
the ones who sweat it
out to keep the
lifeline ticking.
Prem Sherpa,a 30
years old Youngman
walk to Rimbick ie
12 KM steep and
rocky foot-path
takes three-and-a-
half hours journey
for charging their
mobiles
together.Sirikhola to
Rimbick,goods are
carried by ponies for
not having
motorable
road.Except Prem
others have no idea
how to handle such
gadgets.Though
solar powered
batteries bring light
to some homes are of
no use because a
mobile dealer told to
Prema that the solar
charged batteries is
available as DC
supply where as the
battery sets in
mobiles phones are
capable of receiving
AC
supply.Cellphones
get irreparables
damaged if used for
charging mobile
batteries by solar
charged DC supply
available in the
locality.
Sirikhola is one of
the most remotest
neglected areas of
Darjeeling.There is
no sanitation
system,school or
even a
dispensary.The
village,a near-
inaccessible hamlet
100 KM from
Darjeeling town,is
home of 150
families.It has been
10 years since
authorities tried to
connect a road from
Sirikhola to
Rimbick.Some old
people of Sirikhola is
yet to see a vehicle in
their lives.


              CASE
NO-2
French author and
philanthropist
Dominique
Lapierre,writer of
“City of Joy”is
touring parts of
rural West Bengal
where he has
established several
NGOs as
charitable.He
inaugurated a
computer literacy
centre at Bodha-
daya Vidyamandir
of Parbakshi village
and laid the
foundation stone for
the Lappierre Sadan
at Kathila village of
Howrah district
respectively.Both the
organizations run on
the royalty from his
book—City of Joy.
According to
Lapierre’s words,the
computer centre in
remote village is a
triumph over
poverty,a victory of
ignorance.India
shining should not
be confined to a
certain section of
people or a select
region.He has
already floated four
hospitals in the
Sundarbans,world
heritage;and desire
to establish another
two more at
least.Each hospital
has two doctors,five
paramedics and
operation
theathres.He has
decided to visit
different islands of
Sundarbans still
unknown to many
parts of world.

DISCUSSION:
There should be a
consciousness
evaluation whether
the person engaged
can fit into the
organization or
not,especially in an
environment viz.if a
structure is flat
whether the person
has internal as well
as external (fitness)
communication to
stand which is
important.Skills can
be taught,but an
attitude(the kind the
organization seek) is
something that is
inherent.That is why
focusing only
whether a person
can do a job well is
not quite enough.
Culture attribution
may vary
viz.tough,aggressive,
lean,competitive,bur
eaucratic,rule
bound,fun,playful,de
manding,egalitarian,
laid-
back,introverted,
quixotic,unfocussed,i
mpulsive or risk
averse.So,an
organizational
fitness to be judged
in tune with the
structure(culture)of
the organization.An
organization needs
where all the people
are aligned with
goals,mission,vision
and values.The kind
of organization
improves where
coming to work
every morning is a
pleasure,something
the employees look
forward to,and
hence wish to stay
for longer.The
culture that is
followed in an
organization should
direct the overall
functioning where
the organization has
similar cultures due
to the
product/service,mar
ket and regulatory
demands.Manageme
nt look for people
who can be a part of
it,without
attempting to alter it
or feeling lost.When
an organization have
a fairly
easy,open,hierchy
free where a
person’s job is
respected as per his
level.That kind of
culture demands
people who are a lot
more secure about
themselves.Cultural
progress of an
organization is
judged by indicators
viz.accord of
preferential
treatment to those at
higher level or
recognization of the
efficiency by
reward.Everyone of
the groups and levels
should absorb for
greater share of
attention in
recognization by
reward.
CONCLUSIONS:
The culture that is
observed in any
organization is the
basic fabric of that
organization and
hiring a member
means weaving the
person in to its way
of life/work.A sheer
mismatch of a
member’s
personality with that
of
organizations’could
not only result in
rejection but also
make the member
feel lost and isolated
or further pushing
the importance for
better culture of the
organization.Theref
ore fitting a person
in an organization
by his mode of
dressing,way of
speaking,attitude
and
behaviour,ability to
work within the
structure and get
along with
others,involvement
in organization’s
activities,above and
all willingness to go
the extramile.
