Member Profile
Have YOU met Kiwanis members Dick and Mandy Rein? Dick and Mandy
moved to Port Ludlow in 2002 and joined the Kiwanis Club in 2003. Dick
made a career out of building and operating multifamily housing in Southern
California and, more recently, in St. George, Utah. Mandy’s last career was as
an operating room nurse. They say that they moved to Washington to escape
reality. Maybe it was to change their realities. Having served in the Navy in
his youth, they have reawakened a love of the water and have gotten into
boating in a big way. They are members of the Port Ludlow Yacht Club
Mandy Rein and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. They have a boat but they are looking for a Dick Rein
bigger one. (Sound familiar?) Their plans include some long trips to
Alaska in the near future. They are also serious gardeners, growing food as well as decorative plants at
their home on the Tala Peninsula near Port Ludlow. ~ Bob & Marge Helander; Sponsors

Kiwanis Pins: WEAR YOUR PINS! Many of us are good about wearing our Kiwanis pins (Membership pin,
Past Officers pin, Camp pin, Year of the Old Coach pin) on Wednesdays, but I want to encourage you to wear
a pin EVERY DAY. People will see Kiwanis at work, making our community better for everyone through
service. Every morning when I get dressed for work or just to go to the store, putting my pin on reminds
me that Kiwanis is at work in our town, and shows others where we are making a difference. So, find your
pin (take if off your Wednesday only name tag) and show everyone that you are a proud part of a global
organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. ~ Steve
Finch

Share In Oil Company Profits
Would you like to share in the profits on gasoline sales? You can’t, but the Kiwanis Club can. By using your
Safeway gift card to purchase gasoline, you can send 4% of the cost of gasoline back to our Club. You also
get Alaska or United Airline frequent flyer miles. To take advantage of this “no-brainer” see Steve Bozak,
Marge Helander, or Bob Helander. Yes, it works for groceries, too. ~ Bob Helander

International & Division Information
News from Lt. Governor (Div. 19) Chuck Standley (eMail: crstand@olypen.com) & Governor (PNW) Lori
Bryant (eMail: lorikiwanis@trophynthings.com):
We have an opportunity to show how proud we are of our college service program CKI!
The Pacific Northwest District is hosting the ICON (International Circle K Convention) in Portland Oregon, August
4 — 7, 2007. The deadline to register is June 24th, registration packets can be found at www.pnwcirclek.org
then by clicking “International Convention”. There will be important amendments for the delegates regarding the
International Bylaws, structure governance, and club dues. This ICON will certainly be one of the most exciting
in CKI history.
CKI Host Committee Chair Brian Egger whose email is begger485@aol.com encourages students to have
fundraising plans. He hopes a third of the cost will be offered by Kiwanis clubs (even if you are not a sponsoring
club). I know you can do that, and more! There is a package for $345 for housing etc. What a wonderful DEAL!
You can contact Darren Page, On-To-International-Convention Chair at pagedf@gmail.com if you have questions.
Let’s look for ways to make this happen.
Our college students study hard, and serve well. Let’s join together in their education with the forums,
motivational speakers, service ideas and responsible leadership development. Our investment in their future is
important and a great joy.
If you or your club can help, please send your donations to PNW Circle K, c/o Dick Rust, 4707 Black Lake-Belmore
Road SW #20, Olympia, WA 98512-6633. These students will bring a smile to your heart, and a wonderful reason
to be a Kiwanian!

Flag Day
Happy Birthday to Old Glory. Flag Day, June 14th, has been officially celebrated as a national holiday
since 1950, though it is believed that Flag Day was originally celebrated in 1885 by a Wisconsin
school teacher. Please remember to fly Old Glory on this day, and take a moment to remember what
she represents. “You’re a grand old flag, You’re a high flying flag, And forever in peace may you
wave. You’re the emblem of the land that I love. The home of the free and the brave.” G. M. C.
