U.S. MOTORS® Brand Celebrates 100th Anniversary,
Begins Next 100 of Innovation in Electric Motors
St. Louis, May 23, 2008: Emerson Motor Company’s U.S. MOTORS® brand—known for
a history of innovation and pioneering technology—has reached its 100th year in the
electric motors industry. Founded in 1908 in Los Angeles, U.S. Electrical Motors, Inc.
was acquired by Emerson Electric Co. in 1962.
Today, as part of Emerson Motor Company, the U.S. MOTORS brand continues the
leadership position it earned as an early developer of induction motors and innovation of
the revolutionary vertical HOLLOSHAFT® motor—a product that still leads the liquid
pumping industry in 2008.
“We look forward to another productive century of growth and developing further
advances in technology,” said Jim Lindemann, Chairman and CEO of Emerson Motor
Company. “As we look back on the first 100 years of the U.S. MOTORS brand, we
embrace a future built on engineering expertise, world class manufacturing, customer
satisfaction and product reliability.”
Emerson Motor Company and the U.S. MOTORS brand combine to offer OEMs, end-
users and aftermarket customers the advanced solutions they need to meet today’s
motor challenges—through product performance, energy efficiency, delivery and
reliability. Recent innovations include:
• API 547®* motors, offering reliable new alternatives in oil and gas processing,
utilizing LEAN manufacturing principles to support world-class lead-times.
• ReadyLineSM and FastFlexSM on-demand production that drastically reduces
motor lead-times.
• ACCU-TorqTM vector duty motors, for applications up to a 2000:1 constant torque
speed range.
• A full range of NEMA Premium®* motors that already meet the newly enacted
energy efficiency legislation (EISA).
