Morris, Manning & Martin Attorney Joins Atlanta
Volunteer Lawyers Foundation Advisory Board
Shawn Lanier Also Heads Firm’s MMMPACT Pro Bono Program
Atlanta (January 12, 2006) – Shawn Lanier, a partner with Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP,
has joined the advisory board of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF).
AVLF is a nonprofit organization that coordinates free civil legal services for low-income
Fulton County residents. It offers a variety of services, which include representing children in
custody and juvenile justice cases, drafting wills, securing protective orders for victims of
domestic violence, and representing people facing eviction. It also runs the Saturday Lawyer
Program, in which volunteer lawyers staff the Downtown Atlanta Legal Aid office and
represent clients in a variety of consumer matters.
“Shawn’s the real deal,” said AVLF executive director Marty Ellin. “He demonstrates a great
interest in issues concerning equal access to justice,” Ellin added. “It’s clear to me that he has
done some deep thinking about the place of pro bono in the practice of law. Not only is he
doing the work for his clients, he is thinking ahead, and those are the qualities we want for
members of our advisory board.”
Lanier is a partner in Morris, Manning & Martin’s real estate development and finance
group. He specializes in large mixed-use developments and represents clients including
Atlantic Station®. In addition to his real estate work, he chairs the firm’s Pro Bono and
Community Service Committee, also known as MMMPACT. He also volunteers with Trees
Atlanta, Project Open Hand/Atlanta, Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers,
and Hands on Atlanta.
