Approaches for Bringing Judaica Databases to Academic Users

• Problem: Traditional full-text online
    providers (e.g., FirstSearch, EbscoHost)
do not carry significant number of titles in
    the area of Jewish studies

• Solution: Create an online collection of
    Judaica resources for our distance
    learning students using Citrix® technology
    (http://www.spertus.edu/library.html)

• More about licensing:

    – Server licenses vs. application licenses
      • Deal directly with application producer
          and not distributer
      • Most Judaica producers have no multi-user
          licensing sheme
      • Consult with your attorney

• Technical considerations:

    – Support from producers for installing Judaica
applications on Citrix server is non-existent
         – No previous experience upon which to draw
         – Choose an experienced Citrix consultant!

    – Once installed, Citrix environment is extremely
      stable and reliable
