Dallas, Texas for the Construction of the Filtration System at
                   the Juanita Maxfield Pool.

MEETING DATE: September 16, 2008

DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation and Open Space

RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
 Approval of the attached Resolution.

ITEM SUMMARY:
 The Juanita Maxfield Pool is located at 1701 N. McDonald Street.

 Staff recommends approval of Texas Aquatic Supply for the removal and
replacement of the filtration system at the Juanita Maxfield Pool in an
       amount not to exceed $88,000.
o Texas Aquatic Supply is a sole source provider for the filtration
              system.

 When the pool is backwashed, the current filtration system exceeds the
capacity of the downstream sanitary sewer.

 With the new filtration system, the backwash will not exceed the
downstream sanitary sewer capacity and it will provide for better water
       quality.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
 Staff has concerns that the current situation could potentially cause a
sewer overflow into the newly constructed Gateway Apartments that are
located further north of the pool.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
 Juanita Maxfield Sanitary Sewer Improvement (PK8107) is a FY 07-08
Capital Improvements Program funded by Park Construction Fund 23.

 In a concurrent CIP Amendment, Staff is requesting additional funds in the
amount of $10,000 to be appropriated from CIP project FA7159 which has
      an excess of funds.

 The total project budget including design and construction of the filtration
system is currently $85,000. If the additional funds of $10,000 are
approved, the project budget will be $95,000.

BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
 On August 14, 2008, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory
Board recommended approval of the contract for the removal and
replacement of the filtration system at the Juanita Maxfield Pool.
