Nobody

T
here is a parade unit in Ararat
        Temple called the Mounted Guard.
That sounds like they might have
a bunch of horses that they like to ride in
parades, and I think that’s correct. But
they do some other stuff that doesn’t have
much to do with horses or any other kind Bass Tournament
of “mount.” I think they should be given Highlights
a little recognition for the other work that
they do to support our Temple.

The biggest fundraiser
that they run is called
the Ararat Mounted
Guard Buddy Bass
Tournament.
If you’ve ever been to our circus,
you’ve probably seen some of these same
Nobles just inside the front door, stand-
ing on little towers up above the crowd,
selling Circus Programs. They’ve sold a
whole, big, bunch of programs over the
years. They’re always there.
They also spend a lot of money
sponsoring a special circus performance
for kids. They always fill the auditorium
with kids; mostly grade school kids. It’s
really interesting, or moving, or inspir-
ing to stand there and watch 8,000 young
people sing the Nation Anthem. It’s fun
to simply watch and listen to all of the
future Nobles and Ladies laughing and
screaming for the Circus act. It’s im-
pressive to look around the darkened au-
ditorium as all of these kids wave their
lighted swords and wands.
The Mounted Guard does all of this
stuff, and you might guess that they must
be pretty successful at raising money if
they can pay for all that they do.
     The biggest fundraiser that they
run is called the Ararat Mounted Guard
Buddy Bass Tournament. Noble Jack

was in 2010. It’s really an impressive bit Permit No. 595
of work, and it raises most of the money Kansas City, Mo.

The Grand Masters Award is a tribute presented to a Master Mason who has served the Lodge,
Community and Masonic Fraternity with distinction and devotion over and above the ordinary. It is
the highest honor that can be bestowed on a Mason and demonstrates the respect, admiration and
appreciation of fellow national, state & local lodge members.

The Award was presented to Dr. Barnhart by The Most Worshipful, L .Kent Needham, Grand Master
of Masons in Kansas, at the 2011 Grand Lodge Assembly on March 18th, 2011.

The Grand Lodge of Kansas was Chartered March 17, 1856, five years before Kansas became a State,
and has served the Masons of Kansas continuously since that time. The current building at 8th and
Harrison, just across the street northwest of the State Capital building, was erected in 1916 on the
same site as the previous Grand Lodge building which had been purchased in 1905.

t’s Never Been Greater To Be An Ararat Greeter” at the Ararat’s Cinco DeMayo
Party. If you missed it you lost out on one of the best parties ever. The 2011 Aides
did an absolute excellent job keeping people dancing in the aisles and can you be-
lieve those decorations! Bob and Brenda Rojas (Aides/Greeters) led the way setting
the stage for this night of Latin Experiences. To all the Aides, from all the Greeters “A
Big Thanks for reminding us this is a fun organization to be in.”
Where else other than the Ararat Shrine can you go from celebrating one night to
parading the next day? That’s right Greeters, our 2011 Ararat Parade schedule kicked
off not with one parade but two, Missouri City & Richmond. The Greeters joined in
with the other units and clubs to make the first one of the best.
Director Chuck and President Doug made sure that all were on the newly reno-
vated Greeters float (The top was fixed so it doesn’t “conk” us in the head) in time for
the start. It is yet to be determined who was hoop-an-hollering/waving the most; but
we do have it narrowed down to Charlie Green, Herb Gronemeyer, Verlin Ulshafer,
Norm Hughes or Harry Marshall. Greeters, as this is a very important honor please
give it much consideration before the vote at our next meeting.
Well, that’s the scoop from Greetersville this month so I’ll leave you with this
reminder… “It’s Never Been Greater To Be An Ararat Greeter”

his year’s parade in Marshall, MO was a big success. After the parade we all
met at the Fairgrounds and enjoyed a dinner that was catered by the City for all
      Shriners and their Ladies.
I would like to share the following copy of an article that appeared in The Mar-
shall Democrat-News on May 12, 2011.

Shriners to parade Saturday, May 14
By Sarah Reed/Staff Writer
Saturday, May 14, is shaping up to be an event-filled day in Saline
County. One of the highlights will be the Shriners parade, scheduled to
begin at 11 a.m.
“This is the only all-Shrine parade in the state. All four temples will be
     ”
here, said Russ Cooksey of Saline County Shrine Club.
The other three groups are Moolah of St. Louis, Abou Ben Adhem
of Springfield, and Moila of St. Joe. The temple, or chapter names are
Egyptian derivatives and there are now more than 411.000 members in
the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Panama, Germany, Puerto Rico and the Philip-
pines.
In the early 1870s, Shriners began as a social organization; however,
as their philanthropic work developed, so did the number of Shriners
Hospitals for Children. There are now 22 total hospitals, and the organiza-
tion is dedicated to providing free medical care for children.
The parade will begin at Marshall High School, make its way down Ar-
row Street and around the square. A car show will be set up in the shop-
ping center parking lot and a hospital van will be on site.
                                                            ”
“Anyone with a child who needs help, come see us, Cooksey said.
Some of the medical conditions treated at Shriners Hospitals are
burns, cleft palate corrections and spinal chord injuries. The first hospital
was built in Shreveport, La., in 1922.
A mini 18-wheeler will accompany the parade as well as segways and
bagpipes.
