Eric Chong Associate Dean Guam Community College Email: eric.chong@guamcc.edu Eric Chong is currently serving as an Adjunct Associate Dean at Guam Community College. He will complete his assignment in this position in early August and return to faculty for the new academic year. He authored the Emergency Management certificate and associate’s degree program which will be launched in Fall 2007. He has been trained in the Community Emergency Response Team program and is a first aid, CPR, AED instructor for American Red Cross and American Heart Association. He has worked with Guam Homeland Security to put this program together and has garnered support from local law enforcement agencies. Guam Community College’s Emergency Management Program is modeled after Frederick Community College where students can articulate their EMI courses to college credits. There is a big need for local law enforcement, first responders and private sector emergency management personnel for an accredited college program in this discipline. Guam will participate in TOPOFF 4 this October and there is a lot of excitement for this disaster preparedness exercise. Guam has faced many natural disasters from super typhoons to earthquakes and due to this U.S. Territory’s distance from the mainland U.S.A., the need for training and planning for emergencies and disasters is critical. Eric is new to Emergency Management and looks forward to learning as much as possible during the Higher Education Conference. He also wants to network with other colleges and universities for articulation agreements. He is happy to have this opportunity to interact with everyone at the conference.
