2011 Cherry Blossom Road Race Venue: Howard Middle & High School, 6600 Forsyth Road, Macon, GA Start Location: Both the 5K & 10K start at the Forsyth Road exit of the Howard Middle School Parking Lot. The Start Line is the large white line at the stop sign at the exit of the school at Forsyth Road. Routes: Both the 5K & 10K leave the school, turning N on Hwy 41, Forsyth Road, then immediately Right on Old Forsyth Road. Just past the railroad tracks, at the intersection with Rivoli Drive, the 5K and 10K split. The 5K goes back towards town, turning around near the intersection of Rivoli and Rivoli Ridge Drive, following the same course back to Howard Middle School. After crossing the railroad tracks, the 10K course turns Left onto Rivoli Drive, goes past Mt.Zion Baptist Church, past the intersection of Rivoli & Pate Road, and turns around before reaching Klopfner Road, following the same course back to Howard Middle School. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk starts and finishes in the parking lot in front of the Howard Middle School. The 1 Mile course is entirely on the campus of the Howard High and Middle School. Finish Line Location: All events finish in the parking lot in front of the Howard Middle School. Start Times: Both the 5K & 10K start at 8:00 a.m. The 1 Mile Walk/Run starts at 9:00 a.m. Parking: Event parking is in the Howard High School parking lots. No parking will be allowed in front of the Middle School. Weather: The race is held rain or shine. Please take the following precautions: 1) Train Properly, 2) Race within your fitness means, 3) Wear light clothing that will not impede your stride or cause over‐ heating, 4) Drink plenty of water before, during, and after the race. Medical Problems: Should you experience nausea, shortness of breath, dizziness, muscle cramps, or other unusual conditions, PLEASE STOP. Move toward the side of the road and motion for a Race Official, Spectator, or other participant, and indicate you need help. If you are a runner and see someone in distress, please notify the nearest official or someone with the means to summon emergency medical attention. Awards: For the 5K and 10K, awards will be presented to the first overall male & female participants in the event. Awards will also be presented to the male and female first master (age 40+), first grand master (age 50+), and first great grandmaster (age 60+). The top three male and female 5K and 10K finishers in each of the following age groups will also receive awards: 10 & under, 11‐14, 15‐19, 20‐24, 25‐29, 30‐34, 35‐39, 40‐44, 45‐49, 50‐54, 55‐59, 60‐64, 65‐69, 70‐74, 75+. There are no place awards in the 1 Mile Walk/Run. Restrooms: Please come dressed to run. Portable toilets will be located near the starting lines. Race Timing: The race will be timed by the Macon Tracks, and utilize Point of Finish (POF) cards. Race results will be posted on‐line as soon as they are made available to the Race Director. Starting Instructions: Do not move up to the starting line until instructed to do so. Please position yourself according to your anticipated pace. Faster runners to the front, slower to the back. After the race has started, move to the right of the traffic lane and stay close to the right, white line, throughout the race. The roads are not closed during the event, so please be aware of your surroundings at all time and the possibility of vehicles on the course. Obey all race officials and law enforcement. If you are walking the course or if you are pushing a baby jogger/stroller, please start in the rear, for the safety of you, your child, and other participants. Fluid Stations: There will be one fluids station on the 5K course, near the mid‐point. There will be three stations on the 10K course, at mile 1.5, 3, and 4.5. Please dispose of your cups to the right so as not to interfere with other runners. Final Safety Rules: The Cherry Blossom Road Race is a large event taking place on county roads by over 600 people. For the safety of ALL participants and spectators, there will be no pets, bicycles, or skates allowed on the course or school property during the event. For the safety of the children and also of fellow athletes, we ask that participants pushing strollers or baby joggers please start at the back and use extreme caution. We thank you for your understanding and compliance with these requests. Race Photography: Photo’s will be uploaded to http://www.macontracks.smugmug.com/ Kids Korral: Kathy’s Rock is providing carnival type activities such as a giant inflatable slide, moon walk, obstacle course, and a few others, as well as face painting, sno‐cones, & cotton candy. Access to the Kids Korral is free to paid participants in either race. $5 wristbands may be purchased either at packet pickup or on site during race day. Race Shirts: Participants will receive a Cherry Blossom Road Race t‐shirt while supplies last. With the large number of late registrations and a record number of registrations overall, there is a chance that a t‐shirt size may unavailable. If you did not get a shirt in your size we will have a No-Shirt option which is $5 off your registration, or we will order you one. To order a shirt, please stop by the registration table at Howard Middle School and fill out an envelope with your mailing address and shirt size, and a t‐shirt will be mailed to you as soon as we receive them from the vendor. Post Race Food: Banana’s, oranges, & bagels, water & sports drink. ChikFilA has generously donated biscuits that are provided one per paid participant, while supplies last. You must present your race bib to receive a biscuit. Have a safe & memorable race.
