Ms. Kathleen M. Spellman is employed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA). She works with 17 counties in Northwest Illinois, assisting with Federal and Statefunded grants and exercises. She is a member of the StormReady committee that evaluates counties and cities who are interested in becoming a StormReady community. She also participates in nuclear plant exercises for the six active facilities in Illinois (Braidwood, Byron, Clinton, Dresden, LaSalle, and Quad Cities). Ms. Spellman has been recognized as a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda which is the National Honor Society for Adult Learners in Continuing Higher Education. She has earned her Professional Development Series Certificate from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the IEMA, and she has received certification as an Illinois Professional Emergency Manager. Ms. Spellman is a student volunteer for the Higher Education Conference and a student of Dr. Fred May, associate professor at Western Illinois University. She will complete her BOT/BA degree in June 2008. Ms. Spellman hopes to gain valuable insight about emergency management programs within the educational system and compare them to the county and State programs that she is currently working with. She enjoys learning about the various disciplines of emergency management and looks forward to networking with other emergency management professionals.
