Total 280 pts
To calculate your grade, divide your point total by the total number of possible points at that time in the semester.
Journal: Type (double-spaced) at least 2 pages of reaction to journal topics presented in class. These are to be
your own thoughts and feelings, not what you think Dr. Branen wants you to say. Credit will be given for
completing the assignment, not for what is written.
Book Report: Read an eating disorders book of your choice and submit a 2-3 page double-spaced typed report. Include
a brief summary of the book, your reactions to the book, and how it agreed or disagreed with what you
have learned about eating disorders in this class. Have your book approved by Dr. Branen before reading
it. Due date: March 21. (Points will be deducted for late papers.)
Term Paper: In order to receive graduate credit for a course, students need to do additional work, beyond that expected
of undergraduates. In FCS 504, you will write a ten to twelve page review of the literature on an eating disorders related
topic of your choice. Possible topics include eating disorders in males, nutritional consequences of eating disorders, the
role of family in the development of eating disorders, etc. Have your topic approved by Dr. Branen before you begin
your research. Be sure to choose a topic that interests you and that will be helpful to you in the future. You are
encouraged to email Dr. Branen during the semester in order to get feedback on your work.
This paper should include at least 12 references from professional journals. The International Journal of Eating
Disorders and Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention are devoted totally to eating disorders topics.
Journals such as The Journal of the American Dietetic Association and Adolescence occasionally have articles on eating
disorders. Look at the reference list on Dr. Branen’s home page in order to get started. Use APA style within the paper and
for your reference list. The research paper is worth 100 points towards your final grade. Due date- April 22.
