Sven Jones specializes in managing volatile populations who are impacted by psychological disabilities as well as managing related issues in emergency situations. His varied professional history includes work in federal policy, law enforcement, rehabilitation, and public affairs for the Department of Justice (DOJ). Sven teaches on disabilities and “at-risk” issues for American University. He is a former college director of services for students with disabilities. Within that role, he worked with students who were impacted by Bipolar Disorder, Autistic Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, Tourette’s Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Psychotic Disorder. Sven’s original background rests with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). While there he worked with inmates who had severe psychological concerns and who were unresponsive to formal direction by authorities. Sven is formally trained in multiple law enforcement related areas to include hostage negotiations, investigative intelligence, and correctional techniques. Before leaving the BOP for his college position, Sven was a part of a small team that developed national policy for disabilities programs that impacted over 100,000 federal inmates. Mr. Jones received a Bachelor of Science degree in “Psychology” and two Masters of Arts degrees, one in “Special Education” and one in “Counseling” from Santa Clara University. He completed graduate work in “Organizational Psychology” at Teachers College/ Columbia University and has received specialized training in managing violence within an academic setting at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Sven is currently enrolled in the “Executive Masters of Policy Management” program at the Georgetown University’s Public Policy Institute. He is writing a policy proposal that addresses Emergency Responses for Persons with Disabilities. This topic focuses on the possibility of establishing a national protocol standard that guides the evacuation for persons who have mobility, visual, and psychological impairments.
