FULL CIRCLE SYNERGY In addition, as a boy Ken trained in IS PROUD TO HOST archery, gymnastics and wrestling - among other arts - winning the New Jersey Archery Championship in 1950 & ‘51. In 1951 & ’52 he studied western saber fencing, and was drafted into the army in 1953. From 1960- ’67 Ken studied Goju Karate earning a 3rd degree black belt. In 1967 Ken began his study of Tai Chi Correction, Applications, &Fencing with Cheng Man Ching. Ken was one of the so- called “second seven” group of students who trained TAI CHI SWORD FORM: intensively with Professor Cheng Man Ching in solo Saturday, January 29th 2011 form, sword form, push hands and fencing . Ken was certified to teach T’ai Chi in 1972, and continued to 10:00 am- 5:00 pm train with “The Professor” until his death in 1975. Master Van Sickle started teaching Tai Chi form, push hands and Tai Chi sword in 1983, and has been teaching Tai Chi in the US and internationally ever since. He is also adept with early/primitive weapons such as the Atlalt, the Sling and the Boomerang. Ken was also one of the first teachers (in New York at least) who organized and ran a push hands & fencing co-op to broaden the collective understanding of internal arts, and to cultivate the general feeling of camaraderie and of “traveling on the same path” within the internal arts community. Ken was also Professor Cheng Man Ching’s official photographer and cinematographer.
