Event: During the month of February, Coach Towers shared the " Heads Up: Concussion in
Youth Sports" with her students. This program was integrated into the sports safety lessons. The
students learned the signs and symptoms of a concussion, how to help prevent concussion, and
steps to take in the event of a concussion. This information was integrated into the classroom
lesson, then reinforced during Personal Fitness physical activities.

Event: All the 3rd through 5th grade classes will compete in around robin floor hockey
tournament. The winning teams' will receive a certificate.

Event: Fitness Club! On Monday and Wednesday mornings, the Running Club practices for 20-
30 minutes. On Monday afternoons, we have a group exercise class as part of the Fitness Club.
In this club, participants learn about healthy eating and habits. Also on Monday afternoons, we
have a Dance Club offered to all students. On Wednesday afternoons, interested staff members
walk a mile to show support for students taking the FCAT. From December to the beginning of
February, the volleyball club had an hour-and-fifteen minute practice twice a week, on Thursday
and Friday afternoons. We have taken a break due to the FCAT, and will resume practice
sometime in April.

Event: Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the body fat percentage competition.
Participants will measure body fat content with the aid of a body fat analyzer. Competition will be
for 8 weeks.
Faculty & staff of the Professional and Technical High School participate in many events
throughout the year. A healthy recipe is provided daily to all faculty & staff members. This recipe
is also provided to all school-based Wellness Coordinators so that they may share it with their
school staff. A wellness tip is shared each week on the morning announcements to benefit
students and staff. The faculty & staff are encouraged to participate in an annual weight loss
competition that promotes healthy choices as well as friendly, supportive competition. Health
information is provided on risk factors for disease processes in the form of hand-outs and emails.
As an example, for Breast Cancer Awareness, literature for performing a breast self exam (BSE)
was distributed to staff. Pink ribbons were made by student volunteers and members of the
wellness committee. The ribbons were distributed to all students and staff to wear in support of
breast cancer awareness. Students and staff were encouraged to wear red clothing in support of
Go Red for Women, and students and staff wore funky socks in support of Sock It To Drugs. The
wellness committee meets monthly to determine new and on-going initiatives to put in place. The
goal is to promote the health and wellness of students and staff at the Professional and Technical
High School.
Students of the Professional and Technical High School participate in an annual basket ball
tournament. The winning team of the student tournament plays the staff team. Juniors and
seniors also participate in an annual Powder Puff football game.

Event: The media center of the Professional and Technical High School will showcase a display
of books that promote health and wellness. Books chosen for the display will promote the
importance of physical activity, weight management, and good nutrition. Books will be available
for students and staff to view at their leisure while in the media center with their class and before
and after school. Books will be displayed throughout the month of March.

Event: Student nurses from TECO/PATHS held a health fair for all students and staff. Students
and staff who participated received blood pressure reading and information about weight
management. Educational literature was handed out to promote overall health and wellness

Event: 7:30am - 8:30am Walking club for interested students. Students walk with participating
teachers around campus for an early morning "wake up."
7:15 – 8:00 am Track club for students who are interested in joining the track team. Track team
members participate in district wide meets.
3:45 - 5:15 Teachers meet on Monday's for exercise and relaxation through yoga.
2/29/08 Students and teachers participated in a "healthy" fund raiser where we walked to raise
money for the school PE department.

Event: Biggest Loser Contest and Health Awareness days. Teachers are in a ten week
competition to lose weight. This is for them to appreciate and be involved in good health
practices, heart disease awareness, and increase social activities between colleagues. We have
created a walking buddy program, nutrition meetings, and body fat calculators to aid in their
efforts.

Event: The event will be during all of my class periods. The first class starts at 9:00 and the last
class ends at 3:20. The students will be scattered within the playing area, each with a FCAT
flashcard. 2 or 3 students will be the chasers. When the teacher says "go" the chasers must
chase the students and tag them. Those that were tagged are now frozen. To be unfrozen, free
runners must stand in front of the frozen players, hold up the FCAT flashcard, and the frozen
player must answer correctly to become unfrozen again.

Event: Step Up Osceola-Kissimmee 125th Birthday Celebration and Caribbean Fusion Cultural
Festival are Hosting a collaborative Event on Saturday March 29th from 4:00 PM- until 9:00 PM at
Kissimmee Lakefront Park: there will be a showcase of over 20 different physical activity, healthy
cooking, and smart nutrition activity booths for Osceola Residents to learn and 'STEP-UP" to
healthy nutrition and learn of the various physical activity opportunities available in our county.
Booth participants include: Kissimmee Parks and Rec. Dept. Osceola YMCA, Osceola Baseball-
Football-Soccer-Tennis Leagues, St. Cloud Fitness Boot Camp, Walking Clubs, dancing
demonstrations, Osceola Nutrition Council & more. There will be lots of fun for the whole family!
