It’s all about villas at this beachside resort — Karma’s first in Bali —
located in what some call the “Beverly Hills of Bali.” The residence-meets-
hotel concept means that the one- to four-bedroom villas boast gourmet
kitchens, private pools and a modern Balinese style, along with a host of
deluxe amenities (including an on-site spa, gym and wine cellar). You’ll
feel as though you’ve moved to paradise — if only for a few days.

   Jetsetter review
Located across the road from beautiful Jimbaran Beach, in Bali’s upscale Jimbaran Bay
neighborhood, this luxury all-villa resort opened in 2004 as Karma’s first property on the island.
The concept is high-end villa-style living featuring both the comforts of home and the amenities
and services of a five-star hotel.

With that in mind, the 38 hillside, water-view accommodations — which range from one-bedroom
options to a stunning four-bedroom Grand Residence — boast fully equipped Smeg kitchens,
WiFi and satellite- and DVD-equipped TVs, as well as a warm, modern Balinese style with
touches both traditional (outdoor showers, local artwork) and over-the-top (private pools, marble
flooring). Guests can take a private cooking class in their own kitchen, have an in-villa BBQ, or
just lounge around their personal courtyard garden and pool deck.

When they get restless, there’s lots to be done outside the villas. The property is home to a
steakhouse led by award-winning New York chef Raymond Saja, a kids club, a library, a wine
cellar and a spa and wellness facility where the offerings include bamboo-seaweed facials,
Japanese wakame, clay and cherry blossom scrubs, and traditional Balinese bathing rituals.
(There are also a Chinese health practitioner and Reiki masters on board.)

A short walk off-site to Jimbaran Beach brings you to one of the island’s prettiest spots, where
picture-perfect waterside cafés grill fresh seafood to order. The trendy shopping and nightlife area
of Seminyak is only a short drive away, as are cultural sites like the Uluwatu Temple — the resort
can arrange everything from volcano hikes to island tours.

For the most part, though, Karma guests are content to relax in the blissful sanctuary of the villas
   — comfortable homes away from home just made for romance or reconnecting with family and

   What to do
Relax. Indulge in a 90-minute rhythmic, yoga-influenced “dancing fingers” massage at Jari
Menari, a casual spa in town. For extra healing, choose the Tibetan Singing Bowl option,
which uses vibration to further relax the body and mind.
Explore. take a taxi to and from the iconic Uluwatu Temple on the southern coast. This temple
is famous for its cliff-top inner sanctum, nightly Kecak performances and aggressive monkeys
     — so hold on tight to sunglasses and cameras.
Dine. Head to a new hotspot Metis, a bar/lounge/restaurant set overlooking the rice paddies.
An international team of chefs serves French-Mediterranean fare with Asian touches, like king
crab and seaweed ravioli, and fresh scallops and prawns.
Shop. Pick up some Balinese ceramics, furniture and antiques at the Jenggala Showroom.
Chill. Watch the sunset and indulge in fresh grilled seafood at one of Jimbaran’s beach cafes
or at the more upscale Sharkey’s.

   How to get there
Flights are available from major U.S. cities to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) on a
variety of carriers, including Cathay Pacific and Singapore Air. Karma Jimbaran is
approximately 10 minutes from the airport; transfers can be arranged through the property
and are $22 per car, each way.
