                                                 German Apple Cake
                                 For a warm, hearty winter desert, give this cake a try.

     2 1/4 cups flour
     1/2 cup brown sugar
     1 cup white sugar
     2 teaspoons baking soda
     2 teaspoons cinnamon
     1/4 teaspoon salt
     1/2 cup shortening
     1 cup sour milk (you can sour milk with lemon juice)
     2 eggs
     2 cups raw, diced apples ( peels can be removed, it’s a personal preference)

     Cream eggs, shortening and sugars. Add flour, salt, cinnamon, and baking soda alternately with milk. Fold in
     diced apples. Place cake in greased and floured 13”x9” pan; sprinkle on following topping:

     Topping: Blend together the following
     1/4 cup brown sugar
     1/4 cup white sugar
     1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
     1/2 cup chopped nuts

     Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.
