Vacancy for EVS Volunteer in Germany
 Contact person: Mr Jens Meier
 Coordinating organisation: LeISA GmbH Soziokulturelles Zentrum Die VILLA
     Host: Caritasverband Leipzig e.V. - Agnesheim: http://www.caritas-leipzig.de
     Location: Leipzig, Germany
     Deadline: 30/04/2011
     Start: 01/11/2011
     End: 31/10/2012

The Agneshaus for mothers and children in Leipzig exists since 1921. In his changeful history
it was allway a place for affected women, girls and mothers with her children. In the living
group are hosted young women, pregnant women as well as mothers with children who are
not able to pass social muster alone and without any help.
In the Agneshaus they can find a community like a familiy. The absorption takes place in
cooperation with the youth welfare service.
The main targets are: to facilitate that the mothers can live together with their children and
to stabilise them. To live together with other mothers sould stabilise their self-confidence
and at the same time they could get more social skills.
The pedagogic work is based on a integrated and systemic approach. continuity and
reliability are important points. The inhabitants take part in all tasks in the community and
should take over responsibility fort their own and their children and should learn to run a
household, to deal with money and administrative bodies. The are empowered to make a
        professional training.

The EVS project would like to give an invitation to knock down borders, awaken interest in
one another and get to know the social system in Germany.
The volunteer has the chance to develop their own project in presenting their own country
e.g., history, social, political, economic situation whereby the disabled people gather new
experience and knowledge about the respective country which serves to broaden their own
horizons and on the other hand supports the process of European unity.
The Caritas association Leipzig e.V. is hosting volunteers from all over Europe since 2005.
Leipzig is located in the northwest of the Free State of Saxony. The city and its 500,000
inhabitants became known throughout the world in the fall of 1989 as the center of the
peaceful revolutionary movement in East Germany. Its being home to the second oldest
university in Germany as well as serving as an important trade fair center have both had a
decisive influence on the city to the present day. Around 1 million people visit Leipzig every
year, enjoying the city's lively atmosphere and diverse cultural offering

Messzelátó Association has a young volunteer, who is coming from a very difficult background and is
willing to go on EVS. He is called Sándor Artemon Círus (first name: Artemon), is 19 years old living in
a foster home. I have to tell, that when we met him, we were really impressed! He is not one of the
usual bad guys from foster homes. He is studiing hard and willing to be someone! He told me that
when he saw other guys leaving the foster home, seeing how they are running their lifes and how
they are getting to be homelesses, he got really scared and he started to work very hard.

He is aware that the knowledge of a foreign language is really important to find a good job in the
future, so he is really motivated to learn English - but he is also open for other languages.

Mostly he is interested in sports, especially martial arts and hiking. He is very tenacious, conformable
and organised.

This summer (June 2011) he is going to graduate and than after he wants to travel abroad - whether
for the summer, or for a whole year. He is available from July 2011.

Please, contact us if you have any projects suitable for him! I usually do not promote our volunteers
like this but we think it is really worth to give him a chance and host him.

Vacancy for EVS Volunteer in Ireland

 Contact person: Allison Murphy
 Friends of the Elderly
 Host: Friends of the Elderly: http://www.friendsoftheelderly.ie
 Location: Dublin, Ireland
 Deadline: 21/03/2011
 Start: 01/07/2011
 End: 01/07/2012

Friends of the Elderly works to alleviate loneliness and isolation in the lives of older people in Dublin.
We work to achieve this mission through the management of a home visiting programme, as well as
through a variety of clubs and activities that are held at our Bolton Street Centre. The visitation
programme targets older people who are housebound and/or socially isolated by matching them
with part-time volunteers who can visit them on a regular basis, in order to provide regular social
contact and friendship. We are referred new cases by social workers, doctors, health centres and
hospitals. We then assess the social contact needs of the older person and identify a volunteer
willing to make a regular visit in that area. The social clubs, which include our weekly Wednesday
Club, as well as other activities such as film and karaoke clubs, are enjoyed by people who are able to
travel to our location in the city centre. In addition, throughout the year we organise holidays, day
trips and outings to concerts and the theatre.

Our activites are organised and carried out through the work of two salaried staff members, three
full-time volunteers, and 300 part-time volunteers. The Public Relations Manager / Fundraiser works
to raise awareness about Friends of the Elderly to potential clients, as well as to potential volunteers
and donors. This is done by contacting media, advocating for policy changes on behalf of older
persons, and planning fundraising activities and publicity events centred around celebrating the role
of older people in society. The Coordinator's role is to manage the administration of the organisation
and to support the full-time and part-time volunteers in the provision of friendship and social contact
to isolated elderly people.

Friends of the Elderly has been running a Full Time Volunteering programme for over 10 years. As a
small charity we recruit three full-time volunteers for a period of 12 months to support our work to
combat loneliness and social isolation amongst elderly people. We would like to ensure that our
volunteering opportunities are open to as many European volunteers as possible and view the EVS
programme as a means to increase the number of European applicants to our programme. 2010 is
our first year to be involved in the EVS programme.

Youth Centre “Vartai” (Gates). The youth centre offers different cultural activities, like game
evenings, movie nights, party without alcohol to introduce different music and lifestyles. Also the
centre gives space for youth to organize own activities, like concerts, exhibitions or initiatives.

   - We see it as very important to offer the volunteer an intensive, available and regular
accompanying. Concrete we understand this as regular meeting for the reflection, where both,
the tutor and the volunteer can evaluate the working process. The tutor has been working with
the EVS volunteers for five years, so she gained different experiences in the process of changing
   cultures and living environment.
   - We can offer friendly and open minded team of young people. The motivating and fair work
atmosphere we see as a necessary condition for a productive work.
   - A possibility to learn the language. The workers of the youth centre can easily communicate in
English, German and Russian, that may be useful for the volunteer in the beginning. Later on we
expect that the volunteer will improve the skills of Lithuanian language. We are ready to
   accompany and support this process.
   - Apart from the language the volunteer will gain team skills, skills in planning, organizing
different events, evaluating, leading and certain skills from different workshops.
   - We can offer both ways of working: to go solo and with accompanying though the workers.
Working solo can be a challenging experience. As well the volunteer will have space to sell his or
her own ideas, as the activities in the youth centre are not strong restricted.
   - If the volunteer is interested in the cultural differences, he or she will have an opportunity to
gain a view into the reality of the youth situation in Lithuania, the topics and values, which young
   people are interested in.

       Institution:
“JAUNIMO DARBO CENTRAS” it’s a subdepartment of the employment office, which consult
       younger people

       Target group:
People between 16-70; very different pupils: pupils, unemployed persons, retired persons,
       but also employees.

Why to come to the project
Very friendly atmosphere, nice colleagues, you are quite independent and flexible in the way
of working, you can develop your „teaching“/ communication skills (also in Lithuanian). You
learn how to communicate the best with different people and you get to know their way of
       understanding new things, normally you are not stressed and the clubs really make you fun;
you can also develop yourself/ your self confidence. The chief really takes care of you.

Why not to come to the project

Sometimes it can be borring. If you don‘t organize many clubs, you don‘t have a lot to do.
Your main task is to organize the clubs. Sometimes you can feel a bit „Stupid“ when you have
nothing or nearly nothing to do and your colleagues are quite stressed.

       Practical conditions (accomodation, traveling, food)
You live in a flat with other volunteers. The flats are nice, but a bite old & sometimes a bite
cold (in winter). But if you don‘t expect too much it‘s really nice. Lithuania is much cheaper
then Western Europe, but the prices are increasing (milk products especially) going out for
food or coffee/ tea is normally quite cheap. All the volunteers travel a lot here, because the
buses/ trains are quite cheap & it‘s not so difficult to hitchhike. www.couchsurfing.com is a
good possibility to find a sleeping place and to get to know new people in other cities/
countries. Clubs are not so cheap.
The Lithuanian language is quite difficult, but you can learn quite fast some sentences for the
daily use (shopping, asking the way…). The Lithuanian culture/traditions are quite interesting.
You should take a sleeping bag perhaps & your camera.

-The Children day care center is for the children from families who live under difficult/hard

excluded from the society. Main problems are alcoholism, unemployment, poor mode of life,
bad hygienic condition and others. There is a big need to have such institution in this area of

TransFair-Minka asbl was founded in 1992 as the luxembourgish fair trade labelling
association. Fair Trade is an alternative approach to conventional world trade. It is a
partnership between producers and consumers, based on mutual benefit and respect. It aims
to tackle the long term problems of the South through sustainable development for excluded
and disadvantaged producers. We work to offer the disadvantaged producers in the South a
fair price for the work they do, to gain a better access for their products to markets in the
North and to improve their social conditions.

    End: 30/06/2012

The association Offene Jugendarbeit Dornbirn (OJAD) – Open Youth Work Dornbirn – was
founded in 1992 with the purpose to offer young people space for leisure time activities. In
the course of time it has been adapting its activities to the changing realities and is now –
apart from the leisure time activities – also providing services in the field of education and
youth employment. It is financed by the local and regional government. Part of the fundings
we get from various projects that we do with different organisations with different focuses
(integration, employment, etc.). The team runs two youth centres, two big projects on the
topic of education (Albatros – Hauptschulabschluss: Courses for early school leavers) and
employment (Job Ahoi!: Job insertion project with manual workshops), and a skateboarding
       area.
The youth centre Vis.m.u.t. (Vision: human dignity and tolerance) accommodates the youth
café Vismut which is mainly visited by young people under 16 and the Kulturcafé
Schlachthaus where parties, concerts and discussions are organised.
The youth centre Arena also runs a youth café and has the focus on sports (tabletop football,
       skating, basketball etc.).
Our target group are young people between 13 and 20 years of Austrian and of migrant
       (mainly Turkish) origin.
We work with a core team of about 15 people of different background (youth workers, social
workers etc.), trainees and also a team of young people who organise and help organising
concerts and work in different projects. Together with part time workers (who for example
organise workshops for us) we are about 40 people in the team.
We work in close cooperation with other organisations in the youth and social field on a
       local, regional and national level.

The “Verein Offene Jugendarbeit Hohenems (Association for Youth Work Hohenems)” was
founded in July 2005. The association is non-commercial and politically unaffiliated. Aim of the
association is the advancement of youth work as an additional contribution to youth education
provided by schools and other youth-orientated associations. We provide opportunities and
activities for young people to discover their own personal aims and limits especially regarding
creativity and developing their own personality. Our work should support young people in the
phase of adolescence and with the complex tasks of growing up.
To fulfil these tasks our association provides two youth centres where young people have the
opportunity to socialise, do creative work or participate in all kind of workshops.
The target group are young people between 12 and 18 years old. We also set our focus on young
people with migrant origin, young people with disabilities or educational shortcomings and
young people facing poverty. We also provide gender specific youth work and offer a special
   programme for girls.

Vacancy for EVS Volunteer in Germany

 Contact person: Mr Jens Meier
 Coordinating organisation: LeISA GmbH Soziokulturelles Zentrum Die VILLA
 Host: LeISA GmbH / Soziokulturelles Zentrum "Die VILLA": http://www.villa-leipzig.de
    Location: Leipzig, Germany
    Deadline: 28/02/2011
    Start: 01/09/2011
    End: 31/08/2012

Consolidating the commitment and creative potential of the greatest possible number of
individuals is one of the mainstays of "Die VILLA." Volunteer activities and services play a
correspondingly important role in many areas. A large number of activities would be impossible
   without volunteer help.
Apart from their labor time, volunteers bring in new ideas, approaches, knowledge and skills
which greatly enrich the work of "Die VILLA."
Thus, the social and cultural center "Die VILLA" has long occupied itself with different models of
youth volunteer service. As one of its first placements the center supported the development of
the Voluntary Social Year in the cultural domain. With its project "JA:hr für Leizpig" "Die VILLA" is
testing the possibilities of a special local volunteer program. In the future we are planning to
involve esp. our ex-volunteers and qualify them as multipliers for European Voluntary Services.
By their help we want to motivate also more young people with fewer opportunities from
   Leipzig´s environment.
Its intensive involvement in the European Voluntary Service program is part of this: since "Die
VILLA" has been a host and sending organization in the program. The establishment of flat-
sharing community for young people doing voluntary service - the first of its kind in Saxony - was
   a further innovation.
The social and cultural center "Die VILLA" offers volunteers the opportunity to gain experience in
working independently, conceptual thinking, communication, teamwork, and other fields chosen
by the volunteers themselves. They work together with full-time employees, but also with other
German and European volunteers and trainees.
Volunteers are assigned tasks in different areas of the center. On the one hand they are
integrated into regular activities, on the other hand they are given the opportunity to
independently carry out their own project ideas.
We do our best to place volunteers according to their personal interests and abilities. Thus, we
try, for instance, to profit from the language skills of volunteers by initiating projects in their
country of origin. The volunteers play of course a significant role in these projects.
"Die VILLA" would be inconceivable without the help of its German and European volunteers.
