Dear Parents
Polling Day – 5 May 2011 SCHOOL CLOSURE: Northumberland County Council has confirmed that they do
intend to use the school premises as a polling station on this date so school will be closed on this date.

Royal Wedding Bank Holiday: You will be aware that Parliament has approved an additional bank holiday on
Friday 29 April 2011 in order to celebrate the forthcoming Royal Wedding. As schools are already closed on this
date due to the Easter break, the Local Authority (LA) have been notified that another day needs to be nominated in
compensation. This extra day needs to be taken before the end of the academic year. The LA has decided that the
best day for this to occur on would be Friday 22 July 2011 which would mean that the last day of the summer term
would be Thursday 21 July 2011.
However, as Prudhoe West has been notified by the LA that the school is to close on Thursday 5 May 2011,
Governors have decided in order to minimise further lost teaching time Prudhoe West will treat the closure on 5
May 2011 as the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday in lieu of Friday 22 July 2011 as detailed above.

Dinner Money School dinners cost £1.95 per day so the cost for this half term will be £66.30. Payment should be
made in advance on Monday mornings. Children must stay for a full week of dinners or a full week of packed lunches
and are not permitted to change mid week.

Swimming Year 4 costs for this half term (7 sessions) will be £21.00.

Dinner money and swimming cheques should be made payable to Northumberland County Council with
your cheque guarantee number on the reverse. Please send payment into school in a named purse or

Newsletter: From next week if you have more than one child in school, the newsletter will only be given to your
eldest child. From Thursday 17 March 2011 those parents who have given us your email address will no longer
receive a hard copy. Email is a very efficient way of communication for us to use for all sorts of things, so if you
haven’t signed up to use this facility, please email your name along with your child/children’s names and class to and include the following sentence - I consent to having my email address
added to the Prudhoe West First School parent distribution list. Please be assured that when emails are sent out as
a group distribution no other parent can see your email address.
Copies of the newsletter will still be available from the leaflet dispenser in the foyer.

*IMPORTANT * Contact Numbers Could we ask parents to please notify the school office with any new contact
numbers if you change your phone number, especially with regard to mobile numbers. Recently we have found
increasing amounts of contact phone numbers that are unobtainable. This has meant children suffering when they
are poorly.

Forest Schools Year 3I: For the next half term starting next Friday children from Mr Irvine’s Class together with
Mrs L Collins will complete the work started in January this year to build a school camp in the woods above the
school. Both Mr T Irvine and Mrs L Collins have completed their training as Forest School Leaders and risk
assessments have been completed for this activity. Could you please send your child to school with wellies and a
change of old clothes every Friday until the end of this term.
