Press Release - Welcome to Notre Dame by shuifanglj

									                                 -- Press Release --

The athletics department at Notre Dame Catholic High (Carleton Place) is planning to
establish and field a tackle football team for the 2009 season. The team will compete in
the Lanark-Renfrew Football League. The LRFL members include: Carleton Place HS,
Almonte HS, Perth DCI, Smiths Falls DCI, St. Johns CHS, Arnprior HS, Renfrew CI,
and Mackenzie HS. Based on our previous successes in athletics, we have a very
optimistic outlook for our team.

Football is an excellent sport to teach young people the value of teamwork, discipline,
hard work, and commitment to a common goal. These values mirror the goals and values
of Catholic Education and help to build a well-rounded and responsible member of our
greater community. Football is an excellent school spirit builder and can have a strong
impact and benefit to helping athletes stay focused on academics.

Notre Dame will be hosting a football information meeting for parents and students on
February 12, 2009, beginning at 7pm. At that meeting, fundraising and program details
will be available, including information about our upcoming 7-day football camp for
students in grades 7-9, beginning on April 30th.

Starting a football team from scratch is a very large task, and we are hoping to gain
financial support from many sources, at many levels, in our community. Our goal is to
raise $35,000 for the purchase of a wide variety of equipment, ranging from pads and
helmets to goal posts and a scoreboard.

To date, we have had support from many local businesses and individuals:

    Subway Restaurant (Carleton Place)
    Thomas Cavanagh Construction
    Durham Region Football Association
 St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Carleton Place
 Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Almonte
 Gerry Townend (Carleton Place Canadian)
 Bill Gartland (Director, Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario)
    XX Nephin (Neptec)
    Dave Chaplin (NDCHS)
 Paul Martin (Coldwell Banker, Perth)
    Brent Easton (Bells Machinery)
    Ottawa Senators Hockey Club
