WebQuests require only an Internet connection and a willingness on the part of teachers to
explore the current curriculum in an up-to-date, motivating and challenging way. WebQuests
are Internet resourced, project-based tasks built by teachers. They encourage students to use
higher order thinking skills, cooperative learning, increase student social skills, increase
student motivation for learning, use MI, encourage open-minded thinking, understanding and
respect for diversity of thought and people. The workshop will explore:What is a WebQuest?
The Essential Elements The Scaffolding involved in a webquest.Enriching Students Learning
ExperiencesTeachers Sharing Wisdom across the Globe: using the wisdom of teachers
within Australia and overseas who have made webquests and to stop reinventing the
wheel. How to implement WebQuests into the Australian K - 12 classroom in any Key
Learning Area or Theme and equipping students with ICT competencies in a motivating
way.How to use the resources and ideas generated in a webquest in other ways within the
classroom.Rich Tasks & Productive Pedagogy - Webquests, a practical way to implement
these philosophies into the classroom. How to easily find an appropriate webquest

Teachers use Inspiration to customize instruction, achieve standards, assess student
progress and energize learning. Inspiration's integrated diagramming and outlining
environments work together to help students comprehend concepts and information.
Inspiration strengthens critical thinking, comprehension and writing across the curriculum as
well as helping your students plan that next project. Kidspiration provides an easy way to
apply the proven principles of visual learning. Students build graphic organizers by combining
pictures, text and spoken words to represent thoughts and information. To be covered: Use
the various tools Organize ideas Work with text and symbols Create links between ideas
Create your own symbol libraries Create notes and hyperlinks Export various types of files

Greygum joined with Nelson, the publishers of the PM Library reading series, to write the
original PM StoryBooks software. They have now again joined forces to write software for the
recently-published "PM Maths - Numeracy and Literacy" books. The software helps students
both with literacy (providing "talking book" versions of the stories) and numeracy (with both
questions and activities to accompany each story, based on its mathematical content). This
session allows you to have a look at this new software and meet the author.

The Australian Children's Television Foundation has created a diverse, creative online
community of young storytellers, designers, inventors, poets and artists. Participation in this
educational community is facilitated by a unique set of 3D multimedia construction tools
called Kahootz that allow students and teachers to create, exchange and collaborate.Within
the community content and ideas are shared. Each child has a potential audience for their
invention, environment, artwork or design. The power of Kahootz is not just in the creation of
engaging and innovative content, it is in the shared stories, collaborations, incidental learning
and knowledge transfer that occurs when you engage children to challenge each other. This
presentation will outline how children as young as seven can take on the role of creative
content developers. Whether a concept needs to be displayed, a story told, a process
demonstrated or a dialogue initiated, the child can be empowered to do so at home or in the
classroom.
In this paper, I will be reflecting on the issues brought up through both the Information
Technology Teacher Education (ITTE) group related to ICT specific subject knowledge and
issues of ICT teaching above and beyond skills. Much of the data has been collected from
trainee teachers studying for a PGCE qualification and this paper will build upon my paper of
last year. The Key Stage 3 Strategy has made a significant impact on the teaching of ICT and
it is timely to revisit ICT as a subject in its own right and not just as a way of delivering other
subjects. It is broken into 3 parts:1. an introduction to the key stage 3 ICT strategy in the UK
and developments in how ICT is portrayed as a subject2. data collected during the academic
year 2003/4 from research in North London and contributions from the ITTE community will
be presented in the form of teaching points above and beyond ICT skills3. suitable trainee
lesson evaluations will be presented to relate subject knowledge issues to teaching points
and this will be done through the concepts of an ICT misconception or error.

There is growing scepticism from almost all quarters of society about the use of computers in
education. Few actually oppose their use, but many wonder if the very substantial
expenditure on IT is justified, and ask if the eductional benefits justify the expense. Published
research results, while inconclusive, fail to find significant improvement in achievement
among classes using computers, and some even find a slight deterioration. Why is this?
This session suggests that the decision-making process involved in the commitment of
money to the purchase of hardware and other IT-related expenses is often flawed. What
criteria should guide us when we spend money on IT?

A Mathematical Activities CD will be demonstrated with particular emphasis on mathematical
thinking.

From digital video, still photographs and music, you can create Quicktime movies that can be
