P o w e r S m a r t P a r t n e r S I n D U S t r I a L Electrical energy can account for a significant percentage of the operating costs of industrial organizations. Due to increasing energy demand in B.C., it is projected that electricity costs will continue to rise in the future. The development of a long-term plan to increase energy efficiency can address that risk and provide an effective cost reduction strategy. Industrial Energy Manager Consortium Offer An Alternative Funding Option BC Hydro now offers industrial transmission customers a new funding option to access the expertise and skills of an energy manager – one who is skilled in the technical and managerial aspects of industrial energy management. The funding offer will allow organizations to reap the benefits of a sustainable energy management plan, at considerable savings. The energy manager consortium offer will appeal to organizations who are interested in cost sharing energy management services with other organizations. This includes sharing energy management related ideas and concepts for mutual benefit. Potential Energy Savings Using an energy manager to integrate effective energy management into your company’s operations will return annual energy savings. The US Department of Energy estimates that, on average, industry can reduce energy consumption by 20 per cent. Of this reduction, 30 per cent can be achieved with low cost, procedural and behavioral changes. Potential Energy Savings Industries Estimated Savings (GWh) Savings* Who Is This Offer For? All Power Smart Partner Transmission customers, who are interested in operating in a consortium of three to six organizations, may participate in the Energy Manager Consortium program. Companies best suited for this offer will be those grouped together on a geographic or industry basis, who will find value in sharing the services of an energy manager for their mutual benefit. We will work with you to determine the scope of work for the energy manager and tailor the program to your company’s unique business needs. To ensure a high level of expertise, qualified energy managers will be drawn from a pool of individuals who have appropriate industrial experience, skills and training. The Energy Manager will take responsibility for and coordinate energy management initiatives between the consortium organizations. How It Works: • BC Hydro will compensate 75 per cent of the energy manager’s fees and the remaining cost will be equally distributed among consortium members. For example, if the energy manager’s fees are $10,000 and there are four companies in the consortium, each company pays $2,500. BC Hydro reimburses 75 per cent to each company ($1,875), which is paid out in four installments over the year (after each of four reports is submitted and approved). • A scope of work and agreement for the energy manager will be developed with consensus from all parties. This scope of work will outline the time allocation, duties and potential projects to be done at each member’s site. It will also outline the program deliverables and payment schedule.
