Bonds/licenses required in some municipalities. Contractor license
needed with subcontractor designation for plumbing or HVAC.
Licensing falls under "Mechanical Contractor" license. Requires a
licensed "mechanical administrator" who serves as the designated
employee for the contractor. "Mechanical" includes plumbing and
HVACR.
Plumbing and HVACR contractors are licensed as Specialty Residential
Contractors and then under their trade. Exams must be passed for both
contracting and the trade under which an applicants desires to be
licensed.
Contractor license not required by state code, but some jurisdictions
may require contractor license. In that case, state will license plumbing
and HVACR contractors involved in residential remodeling.
HVAC license in some local jurisdictions, but no statewide license.
Statewide contractor license not required.
Contractor license required for $50,000 or more in work. In order to be
licensed, must complete an apprenticeship and work three years in the
trade, or work seven years with a licensed contractor. Does not have

Plumbing and HVACR contractors must be licensed to work in DC.
14 hours of continuing education required every two years to renew
license. Certified contractors (licensed statewide) renew every even
year and registered (licensed at the local level) renew every odd year.
Construction licensing board recently went online and all providers must
submit information electronically within 5 business days in order for
attendees to receive continuing education credits.
To obtain a journeyman license, candidate must document 3 years of
experience in the trade. There is no formal apprenticeship program or
registration of apprentices. A contractor must be licensed in Georgia.
To contract for plumbing work in Georgia one must hold a Master
Plumber license. A business entity contracting for plumbing work must
be "qualified" by having an owner or manager with such a license. It is
similar for HVACR.
Master plumber license requires 2 years previous licensure as a
journey worker. Journey worker plumber license required 5
years/10,000 hours of experience under UPC codes
To qualify for a plumbing contractor license you need at least two and
one-half years of work experience as a journeyman plumber in Idaho or
another state. For a journeyman plumber's license you need at least
four years experience as an apprentice supervised by a qualified
journeyman plumber.
State registration required for plumbing contractors with licensing done
at the local level. PHCC Home Study program accepted by DOL in
place of formal classroom training; OJT still required.
Passed in 2005. Requires 12 hours of continuing education every 2
years.

Maryland has state licensing for both Master Plumbers and HVAC
