WORK VISA CHECKLIST (2011)
IMPORTANT NOTES
There are 3 streams of Work visa policy including the SKILLED and FAMILY STREAMS. The
FAMILY STREAM includes the Partnerships and Dependent of Long Term Workers which is
covered by a separate checklist.
Under the SKILLED STREAM, there is the Work to Residence Policy which covers the (Talent
(Accredited Employers), Talent (Arts, Sports & Culture) and the Long Term Skill Shortage List
(LTSS) work policy.
Specific Purpose/Event and the General Work Visa policy applications are most common in the
Fiji market where under General Work Visa Policy, applicants should provide either:
- An Approval in Principle letter from New Zealand Immigration in New Zealand, or
- Show that the job you have been offered is on the Immediate Shortage Skills List (ISSL), or
- Show that a Case has been made by the Employer establishing that there are no New
Zealand citizens or residents suitably qualified by training and experience who are available.
There must be a genuine attempt to recruit suitable and the terms & conditions of job offer
Must meet the NZ market rate.
Each type of application has its own requirements but below is the generic or basic
requirements. It is your responsibility to lodge all the necessary requirements with your
application. Incomplete applications or those without the necessary requirements will be
returned to applicants.
There is no guarantee that providing all the requirements on this form will result in a positive
outcome.
Only applications with the most up-to-date INZ forms will be accepted.
It is a mandatory requirement that a full residential address is completed on the application
form.
Faxed, incomplete or unsigned applications will NOT be accepted.
All supporting documents must be certified true copies. We may request to see original
documents.
Please do not pay for any travel arrangements before a visa is granted. We accept no
responsibility should you choose to do so, nor will we expedite processing due to fixed
travel dates.
APPLICATION FORM:
An Application to Work in New Zealand (INZ 1015), and the Supplementary Form for Citizens
of Fiji - INZ 1139 must be fully completed in English. Answer each question on the form and
continue on a separate sheet if necessary.
APPLICATION FEE:
The application fee for Fiji, Tuvalu and Kiribati passport holders is $450 FJD for Work to
Residence, $290 FJD for Work Visa General and $450 FJD for Partnership. This can be paid
either by bank cheque or credit card only.

PHOTO:
Two recent passport sized photo (must be less than 12 months old) of each person included in the
application.

PASSPORT OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT:
Passports must be valid for 3 months beyond intended date of departure from New Zealand.
WORK VISA REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should provide the requirements of Work Visa applications depending on which policy
they are applying under (refer to Important Notes above) but most applications will require the
following:
A Written offer of employment or contract which outlines:
(i) Job title, (ii) description of duties, (iii) qualification/experience required, (iv) period of
employment, (vi) period that job offer will remain open, and (v) salary/wage.
Evidence of your New Zealand registration if applicable (e.g. Medical practitioners,
electricians)
Results of a TB test if the applicant is 11 years and over and intends to stay in NZ for more
than 6 months or Full Medical Reports from an INZ Panel Doctor (refer to Panel Doctor List)
if you intend to be in NZ for more than 12 months
Police certificate (if you are 17 years old and over) and intend to stay in NZ for more than
24 months
ADDITIONAL SUPPORTING INFORMATION:
Evidence of all formal qualifications you currently hold
Evidence of all relevant work references to date and a detailed FNPF Member Statement to
substantiate evidence of your past employment
PROCESSING TIME:
We aim to decide 60% of our Work Visas within 10 days, 80% within 30 days and 100% within 60
days. The processing time is longer if we have to ask you for further information or conduct
interviews.
PASSPORT DISPATCH:
When sending passport(s) for visa issuance and/or documents which you would like returned,
please:
Include a pre-paid, self-addressed courier bag when sending your documents in
order to have these returned as safely and efficiently as possible.
Or
Indicate the courier company you would like used in writing within your application,
e.g. attach a note to your application, or contact your assigned Visa Officer directly
to advice. Your documents will then be returned via “Freight Forward” where
payment for postage is required on receipt of the consignment. Passport(s) and
documents can also be sent via post (registered mail) if courier services do not
cover your area.
The following courier companies are most frequently used for delivery within Fiji: EMS, PNT, DHL,
TNT, and CDP. If documents are to be sent internationally, DHL, EMS, and TNT offer a pre-paid
international postal service. Please enquire directly with your selected courier company to arrange
international mail.
Note: If an agent has lodged your application, the passport will usually be returned to them.
