INFORMATION DIGEST
August 20, 2008 Vol. 23 No. 17 DEPARTMENT FAMILY Detective Matthew Wilson, DCI, and his wife, Becky, had a baby girl, Madeline Margaret, born on Monday, June 20, 2008. Police Officer Karl Streckfuss, St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy, and his wife, Felicia, had a baby girl, Christine Kelly, born on Saturday, July 12, 2008. WELL DONE On Monday, July 7, 2008, Police Officers Mark Berry and Chad Hinds, City of Fenton Precinct, received information that suspicious activities were occurring in a motel room involving several men. The officers attempted to contact the men but a witness stated they had just left in a vehicle. Although the room was only registered to one person, several men were reported to be staying in the room at night. The motel manager provided the name of the man who registered and a record check revealed there was an active drug warrant on him. Officers Sean Becker and Justin Holtz saw the car parked in front of the room later that day and made contact with the wanted suspect. Another individual in the room was also wanted on drug charges and all the ingredients needed to manufacture methamphetamine, including anhydrous ammonia, were found within the room. On Tuesday, July 8, 2008, Officers Christopher Gilyon, Michael Deck, Robert Vineyard and Paul Gordon, Affton Southwest Precinct, responded to a call of a tampering with an automobile in progress. As the officers arrived, the suspect got out of the car he had entered and ran on foot. The officers caught the suspect and took him into custody. The suspect identified himself as a 16 year old juvenile but when his grandmother was called, she provided his true identity and stated that he was 19 years old. The grandmother stated that he lies because the police are looking for him. A record check revealed that he had active warrants.
On Monday, July 14, 2008, Officers Elizabeth Berardi, Charles Willis and Stephen Benko, North County Precinct, responded to a high school to arrest a 16 year old student for the St. Louis County Family Court for Failure to Comply with a Court Order. The officers entered the classroom and instructed the subject to leave with them. The subject refused to leave and clutched his waistline as to conceal something with his clothing. As the officers approached the subject, he fell to the ground and assumed a fetal position. As the officers pulled the subject’s arms away from his body they saw the butt of a gun protruding from the suspect’s waistline. The suspect attempted to point the weapon at the officers but they were able to remove and then secure the fully loaded .45 caliber handgun without it firing. The suspect was taken into custody and sent back to Family Court. On Monday, July 28, 2008, at 4:30 AM, Officers Stephen Schue and Matthew Taylor, Affton Southwest Precinct, were on preventive patrol when they saw an adult male subject riding a small girl’s bicycle down Tesson Ferry Road without any lights. The subject stated that he just left St. Anthony’s Hospital after visiting his sick wife and was riding back to his residence in the city approximately 20 miles away. The subject stated that an unknown male gave him the bike to ride. The officers noticed that he was transporting many items such as multiple tools on a tool belt, a telephone, phone charger, I-pod, credit cards not in his name, jewelry and $240 US currency. An investigation revealed that the items were taken from three separate nearby unlocked vehicles and the bicycle was stolen from a fourth victim’s yard. The suspect then admitted that he was single and did not have a sick wife at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
