ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
Emergency Management/Homeland Security The Department of Political Science at Missouri State University invites applications for a tenuretrack position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. The primary field of expertise should be in emergency management and/or homeland security. The Department is seeking to expand its capacity to train individuals in emergency management and administration at the local, state, and federal levels. Applicants will teach in the Department’s NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration program and assist in the development of a concentration in emergency management within the MPA degree. The ideal candidate will teach courses in areas such as emergency preparedness, disaster response and recovery, risk assessment, emergency planning, incident management, and hazard mitigation. Depending upon the applicant’s background and interest, research and teaching opportunities, as well as a joint appointment, may be possible with the University’s Homeland Security Institute. The Institute plans to offer a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Defense and Security. Missouri State is partnering with the Naval Post Graduate School to offer such a certificate to the National Guard. Practical experience in emergency management/homeland security, as well as the ability to teach in a variety of formats (e.g., on-line, executive format) will be considered a plus. The ideal candidate will also possess an identifiable research agenda and demonstrate a strong commitment to public service. The appointment begins in August 2008. Applicants should have completed a doctorate in Political Science, Public Administration, or terminal degree in a related discipline, by the date of appointment. The Department of Political Science has 18 full-time faculty members and over 250 undergraduate majors and over 50 graduate students enrolled in tow graduate programs, the Master of Public Administration and the Mater of International Affairs and Administration.
