                                      Laptop User Agreement (LUA)

I. EQUIPMENT

Ownership
Center Grove Community School Corporation retains the sole right of possession of the laptop and related
equipment. The laptop fee is for the 24/7 use during the 2010-2011 school year. The Computer will be issued to
students the first week of school according to the guidelines set forth in this document. The Technology Team
retains the right to collect and/or inspect the Computer at any time and to alter, add or delete installed software
or hardware. The laptop will be collected at the end of each school year for inventory and maintenance
purposes. If a student is in need of the laptop for educational use during the summer, students should complete
a “special summer use” request form. The exact laptop issued to the student will be “re-issued” to the student in
subsequent years. Thus, students should take personal ownership of the equipment and provide reasonable
care for the equipment. The fee for laptop usage will be $42.50 per semester for a yearly total of $85.

Substitution of Equipment
In the event that the Computer is inoperable, CGCSC will have spare laptops available for use while the
Computer is repaired or replaced. This agreement remains in effect for the substitute. Students should report
before school to the Early College Office for reporting of the technical problem and obtaining a spare laptop.

Customization of Equipment
The Student will access the district’s “Virtual Desktop” for all operations. The student is not permitted to install
software on the assigned laptop. Students will only use the Internet through the school district’s filters.

Withdrawal from EC Program or District

Any student, who withdraws from the EC program or moves out of the district, should return their laptop to their
homeroom teacher.

II. DAMAGE OR LOSS OF EQUIPMENT

Actions Required in the Event of Damage or Loss

Student should report the problem immediately via the electronic workorder system using the special Early
College login (teacher provided). Please leave your laptop with designated teacher before school in the Early
College office.

The insurance policy is an additional fee (optional) that is paid for by the student’s family at a cost of $50/year.
The insurance covers accidental damage from liquid spills, power surges, drops, falls, collisions, vandalism,
flood, fire, smoke, wind, and earthquake, as well as damage to batteries and AC adapters. Students can only
claim one loss with this coverage. Insurance does not cover negligence and abuse. For example, throwing the
laptop or using the laptop as an umbrella would be considered examples of neglect and abuse. If a laptop is
damaged by neglect or abuse, it is the family’s financial responsibility to replace the laptop at a price of
approximately $420.00. If a laptop is damaged, the Tech Team will work with the details of this incident to
replace the laptop.
