Winter in West Virginia warms the heart of outdoor fun-seekers, from beginners to experts. The Mountain
State’s resorts and parks provide a winter wonderland for skiers, snowboarders, tubers and other adventurers.
In the mountains, winter comes early and lingers late, extending the season’s fun for downhill and cross-
country skiers. The abundance of natural snow and powerful snow-making technology at the state’s premier
resorts keep the slopes in prime condition. West Virginia’s proximity to major metropolitan areas in the Mid-
Atlantic and Southeast make this wild, wonderful winter escape within easy reach.

Canaan Valley Resort
Davis, W.Va.
Downhill skiers are sure to find the right slope for their skill level among Canaan Valley Resort’s 39 trails. The
terrain features a vertical drop of 85 feet and the longest run at 6,000 feet. The resort also offers cross-country
skiing, air boarding, snow body boarding, snow tubing, and a full-sized ice skating rink. When the sun goes
down on Friday and Saturday evenings, the fun goes on with night skiing and night snow tubing.

To celebrate its 37th year in operation, Canaan plans a series of $37 discount promotions the weekend of Dec.

Snowshoe Mountain
Snowshoe, W.Va.
Snowshoe Mountain is located in Pocahontas County, one of the highest elevated counties in the East.
Snowshoe maintains a network of 60 trails ranging from beginner to high difficulty. The resort also features 12
slopes open for night skiing, 14 lifts, two terrain parks and two terrain gardens. The 1,500 feet vertical drop
stands among the biggest verticals in the area.

The new slopefront hotel Timberline Hotel and Suites will be completed in January 2009. With 915 acres of
skiable terrain, Timberline features 37 slopes and trails from beginner to expert-only and longest run of two
miles. The resort now offers night skiing on nine trails and provides natural trails for backcounty cross-country

Winterplace Ski Resort
Ghent, W.Va.
Winterplace provides more than 90 acres of skiable terrain, with 28 trails ranging from beginner to advanced. It
has a vertical drop of 603 feet and longest run of 1-1/4 miles. The resort has built up its arsenal of snowmaking
guns in some favorite spots, including Drop Off, Wanderer, Easy Street, Cascade and the Snowtubing Park.
Night skiing is available on 26 slopes, the terrain park and the snow tubing park.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
For a cross-country focus, visit White Grass in Tucker County for more than 30 miles of trails, or Elk River
Touring Center in Pocahontas County, which features more than 18 miles of ungroomed trails for a
