Welcome to the information fact sheet for international students.

This guide is for students from Saudi Arabia interested in studying at the
University of Plymouth.

It has been produced to answer your questions about studying at the University of Plymouth. We
hope you find it useful. The University of Plymouth is a diverse and cosmopolitan community with
1,900 international students from 100 countries.

Entry requirements

For undergraduate courses, applicants should offer the Thanawiya (High School Leaving
Certificate) plus an International Foundation Year or equivalent.

For postgraduate courses, applicants should hold either a Bachelors degree (with a high GPA) or
a Masters degree from a prestigious local university or a good honours degree from a British or
American university.

Applications are considered on an individual basis and other qualifications / work experience may
be taken into consideration.

include your full name, address, gender and date of birth or fill in our order a prospectus form.

English language requirement

You must have an English Language qualification to be accepted onto a course at the University
of Plymouth. The minimum acceptable English Language requirement for undergraduate courses
is IELTS – 6.0 overall and 5.0 for the written language. This is equivalent to 213 in the
computerised TOEFL test, 550 in the written TOEFL test or 79 - 80 in the internet based TOEFL
test.

For postgraduate courses you must have IELTS – 6.5 overall and 6.0 for the written element. This
is equivalent to 232 in the computerised TOEFL test, 575 in the written TOEFL test or 90 - 91 in
the internet based TOEFL test. Equivalent English language qualifications may be accepted.
Application procedures

If you are applying for an undergraduate course, you must apply via the Universities and Colleges
Admissions Service (UCAS) - please visit http://www.ucas.com for further information. You can
also obtain a UCAS application form from the British Council. We do not keep UCAS application
forms at the University of Plymouth.

If you are applying for a postgraduate course, you will need to download and complete the
appropriate University of Plymouth application form, which can be found at
http://www.plymouth.ac.uk/pages/view.asp?page=5732. Completed application forms and all
supporting documents should then be posted to:

Scholarships and bursaries

For the 2009 academic year, there are a range of scholarships and bursaries available, please see
our faculty pages.

If you wish to apply for a scholarship award for the 2009 academic year, you are strongly advised
to apply for a place on the course of your choice as soon as possible after 1 September 2008.
Once you have received your offer letter, you can then apply for a scholarship, please contact
international-admissions@plymouth.ac.uk. For other information on funding sources, please visit:

Visa requirements

Prior entry clearance (i.e. a visa) is required for students coming from Saudi Arabia. Please allow
sufficient time for this process. We suggest that you contact your local British Embassy/Consulate

You will need to show details of your acceptance onto a course, your offer letter, and that you
have sufficient money to fund your education and living expenses in the UK.

Cost of living

We advise students to budget approximately £600 per month to meet living expenses.
Orientation

Every year the university runs the International Students’ Orientation Programme one week prior
to the start of term to help international students adapt to life at the University of Plymouth. It is
free of charge and we encourage all international students to attend, although places must be
booked in advance.

Accommodation

If you are an international student on a degree course based in Plymouth, you are guaranteed
accommodation in a university-managed hall of residence for your first academic year if subject to
the following conditions;

      that the Student Advisory Office receives a completed application form, together with
       confirmation that you have been made an unconditional offer of a place on a course,
       before August 2009.
      the maximum amount of rent you can afford is equal to the rent of rooms available at the
       time your application is processed.
      you do not have any specific requirements that are, unfortunately, not able to be met.
       These requirements can include bringing a partner/family, wanting to stay as a group of
       friends or needing a short term contract.

All halls in Plymouth are offered on a self-catered basis in single study bedrooms. Most Plymouth
rooms are en-suite and many are internet linked.
