Free Autism Tour Provides Answers for Parents & Professionals
United Kingdom (30-Jun-11) – Raun K. Kaufman, a person fully recovered from autism through a landmark program, is
now lecturing on autism and autism treatment in eight cities across the United Kingdom and Ireland.. Kaufman will
present “Breakthrough Strategies for Autism Spectrum Disorders” beginning 13 September 2005. This interactive
lecture is FREE and open to the public. Attendees will have an opportunity to personally meet Kaufman after the
lecture. Pre-registration is required. To reserve seats, please register at or call

According to the National Autistic Society, 1 out of every 86 British schoolchildren has special educational needs related
to autism spectrum disorders. In the U.K., 1 in 110 people are affected by autism and related disorders, equal to at least
518,500 children and adults. Autism is the third most prevalent developmental disorder in the world, and has increased
alarmingly over the last decade.

In his work with families, children, and professionals around the world, Kaufman brings a distinctive qualification to the
realm of autism treatment – his own personal history as a person once diagnosed as severely autistic and mentally-
challenged who is now fully recovered, bearing no trace of his original condition. As a child, Kaufman was diagnosed as
incurably autistic. He was considered severely retarded and was given scant chance of any progress beyond, perhaps,
learning to feed and dress his self. Instead, he emerged fully from autism via the principles of The Son-Rise Program®,
then, went on to graduate from an Ivy League university with a degree in biomedical ethics. Kaufman now lectures,
writes, and teaches for The Son-Rise Program at the Autism Treatment Center of America™.

The specific strategies Kaufman addresses in his lecture have been shown to have an immediate impact on children with
autism, PDD, autism spectrum disorders, and other developmental challenges. Parents and professionals will learn how to
help their children with special needs maximize speech and language development, generate eye contact, and control
tantrums and repetitive behavior. Kaufman will recount his own personal story of recovery from autism while discussing
the treatment methods of The Son-Rise Program®, how they were developed, and why they work. This program was the
subject of the award-winning QED documentary I Want My Little Boy Back on BBC-TV. This inspiring and informative
documentary uniquely captures the heart of The Son-Rise Program as it follows a British family with a child with autism
before, during, and after their time at the Autism Treatment Center of America™.

“Whether parents or professionals, we are systematically taught over and over again to view our children on the autism
spectrum as hopeless, tragic, and lost for life,” says Kaufman. “At the Autism Treatment Center of America we do not, for
a second, buy into these tales of hopelessness. In fact, it was precisely my parents‟ willingness to see hope where others
saw none that enabled them to develop The Son-Rise Program and facilitate my complete recovery from autism. So I say
to anyone who will listen, „Don‟t believe the prognoses, don‟t believe the dire predictions, don‟t believe the myths you‟re
sold. Let‟s give our children a chance.‟ ”

Kaufman has headlined three previous autism awareness tours, lecturing to capacity crowds in England, Scotland, Wales,
Ireland, and Norway. He spoke at the 2002 National Autism Society of America Conference to a standing-room-only
audience and was asked to speak again in 2003. Kaufman was the keynote speaker at the First Stockholm Conference of
Research on Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. He is the author of several articles including “From Autism To
Recovery” for Autism File, “The Journey Out of Autism” for Autism/Asperger‟s Digest, and “Building The Bridge:
Strategies for Reaching Our Children,” published in the first international edition of the Good Autism Practice Journal.

In addition to this free lecture series, the Autism Treatment Center of America will send a team of teachers to Coventry,
England to teach The Son-Rise Program Start-Up in January 2006. Funding for this program is provided through the
generosity of The Caudwell Charity, a U.K. based charitable organization. (Funding is still available for U.K. residents.
Visit for an application.) This event represents the only opportunity to participate in this
program outside the American campus. Both parents and professionals in and near the United Kingdom will want to
attend this dynamic 5-day training course. The Son-Rise Program Start-Up has given thousands of families all around
the world the tools and techniques needed for an effective and successful in-home treatment program.

Kaufman will be available while in the Europe to discuss his personal experience of emerging from autism, as well as
autism treatment and The Son-Rise Program. To schedule an interview with him or to receive further information about
