							                                 Sporting Clays Tournament
On Saturday, August 16, 2008 the Billings Clinic Foundation will host the 8th annual
“Classic Sporting Clays Tournament” at the Billings Rod & Gun Club. This premier
event is the sportsman’s leg of the Billings Clinic Foundation Classic and will benefit
the "Excellence in Health Care Education," a program dedicated to advancing the
education needs and opportunities of our caregivers for the benefit of our patients and
community.
What is Sporting Clays? Sporting Clays is a challenging clay target game designed to simulate field shooting. The sport
originated in England in the early 1900’s as practice to hone the hunter’s skills. On a Sporting Clays course, shooters
are presented with a wide variety of clay targets on 10 to 16 stations that duplicate the flight path of game birds, such as
flushing, crossing, incoming and other angling shots. In the 1980's, Sporting Clays came to the United States. Compared
by some to be "golf with a shotgun", sporting clays has quickly become one of the top participation sports in the
country. Action packed and exciting, sporting clays is a sure bet for an enjoyable outing.

What is Required to Participate? No experience is required other than a good knowledge of gun safety. Any type or
gauge of shotgun that shoots two shells is acceptable including: Over & Unders, Side x Sides, Pumps and Autos. FYI -
no more than two shells can ever be loaded at one time. Typical chokes for Sporting Clays include Skeet, Improved
Cylinder and Light Modified. All shooters and spectators are required to have eye and ear protection. Ammunition will
be provided for you at each station.

What is the Team Format? Single shooters, 2 shooters or teams of 3 shooters may register. All shooters will be
assigned to a 3 person team for the day’s competition. Team awards will be given to 4 separate classes (A, B C &
Hunter) based on the cumulative experience level of the team’s shooters. All beginning shooters or those that average
less than 39 out of 100 targets will be “Hunter Class”. Shooters than average scores of 40 to 55 out of a 100 will be “C
Class”. “B Class” will consist of shooters that average between 56 and 70 targets out of a 100, and “A Class” is for
shooters that average over 71 targets out of 100. Please circle each shooter’s experience level on the registration form.

What is the Day’s Schedule and Times?
8 AM - Check-in, coffee and pre shoot warm-ups on the Sporting Compak course.
9:15 AM – Pre shoot safety talk and squad station assignments at the Clubhouse.
9:30 AM – The main 100 target Classic Sporting Clays event begins with a “shotgun” start.
12:15 PM (or whenever shooting is finished) – BBQ Lunch and Awards Presentation.

Where is the Rod and Gun Club Located? Travel to Highway 3 (which runs in front of the airport) and drive about
3 miles west of Billings Logan Airport. Turn north at the Rehberg Ranch subdivision sign, --- this is Rod and Gun Club
Road. Then continue driving north for a little over a mile to the T-intersection. You’ll see the Rod and Gun Club sign
in front of you. Turn right and then take an immediate left into the gated entry (the gate will be left open for the event).
The Sporting Clays clubhouse is the tan metal building with green roof located on your right.

Classic Shotgun Raffle – A beautiful new shotgun will be raffled during the BBQ lunch and awards presentation. To
enter the raffle you may purchase (in advance or the day of the shoot) a voucher ticket for $20 which allows you to
shoot at a station for chances to win the shotgun. For each target broken one raffle ticket will be entered in your name.
Shooters may buy up to 3 voucher tickets (one per station) for stations 3, 6 & 9.
Station Sponsorships and Team Shell Sponsorships – Opportunities exist to “Sponsor a Station” for $200, or to
“Sponsor a Team’s Shells” for $90. This will greatly assist in providing additional funding for the Excellence in Health
Care Education program which is dedicated to advancing the education needs and opportunities of our caregivers for
the benefit of our patients and community. Station Sponsors will receive exclusive recognition on a sign at one of the
shooting stations. And, the Team Shell Sponsors will be acknowledged at the BBQ lunch & awards presentation.
Please consider these additional sponsorships when you fill out the registration form below – thanks!
