Finishing in first place on the Pro Side was Mike Barnes with Falcon Bass Club. He weighed 22.07-lbs for his 7-keepers in this two-day tournament, and took home a check for $1757.50, plus a certificate for the new Ranger 188VX bass boat equipped with a Yamaha 150HP outboard & Minnkota 80-lb thrust trolling motor. The Ranger / Yamaha / Minnkota package is valued at $34000. Mike was able to find fish a 100-yard stretch of bank in the mid-lake area during practice on Thursday. This was where he caught all his seven of his keepers during this event. Running the area both days, he landed 4 keepers on Saturday that placed him in the lead with 13.77-lbs. Then on Sunday, his spot remained consistent yielding another 3-keepers that weighed in at 8.30-lbs. This gave him a total 2-day weight of 22.07-lbs for the win, finishing 5.45-lbs ahead of the rest of the field. He reportedly caught all his fish on a brown & purple Chomper’s jig that was tipped with a brown #11 Zoom Chunk. He used Falcon rods, Shimano Chronarch reels and Bass Pro Shop’s Excel 17-lb mono line. Mike lists his sponsors as Ranger Boats and Mercury. 2. Placing second in this year’s Classic was Toby Corn, an associate member from West Frankfort, IL. Toby was also our IBF Angler of the year on the Pro Side. His winning pattern was based on fishing brush piles on points where water depths ranged from 10-25 feet deep. His 2-day total weight for 6-keepers was 16.62- lbs, and his bait of choice was a ¾-oz brown and purple Lunker Lure football jig. Toby is sponsored by Ranger, Yamaha, Jet-A-Marine, Lunker Lure, Hans Caller, and G-Loomis. 3. In third place was John Southey with Illinois Central Bass Club. John made the best of just four bites that he weighed in during this event. His day one catch was only one keeper, but on day two he pounded the scales with three keepers, two of which were over the 5-lb mark. With a 2-day total weight of 15.80-lbs, John sealed the deal on Pro Side Big Bass with a 5.50-lb Lake of Egypt lunker, and third place. He reported catching his fish in shallow water that was 65-70 degrees while flipping weed lines with a pumpkinseed colored Brad Lutz Jig. Top finisher on the Am Side here at Lake of Egypt is Jeff Harvey with Competition Bassmasters. Jeff’s 2-day total weight for three keepers was 8.44-lbs. He caught his fish on a peanut butter colored Strictly Bass Jig while fishing weed lines. He is sponsored by Strictly Bass Lures, Pro Swim Bait, Shimano Rods, Lee Bait Shop, Skeeter Boats, Kupper Live Target, and Yamaha. 2. In second place was Ed Corn, and associate member from Benton, IL. Ed is also this year’s Angler of the Year on the Am Side. His three keepers and 2-day total weight of 6.70-lbs came while fishing drops with cover in 5-ft to 30-ft deep water. He used a Lunker Lure 5/8-oz jig that was tipped with a Paca Craw. 3. Coming in third was Mark Gonsowski with Chicagoland Bassmasters. Mark was able to bring a 2-day total of 3-keepers to the scales that weighed 6.41-lbs. He caught his fish by pitching a swim jig and spinner bait in shallow grass around the northern part of the lake. The swim jig is a custom made 3/8-oz bait that he makes, and was white and pearl colored. th 4. Finishing 4 and taking Am Side Big Bass for this years Classic was KB Agrall from Springfield, IL, and fishes with 5-Alive Bass Club. His success was credited to a 3/8-oz black and blue jig that he fished at 15- feet deep both days of the event. His two keepers weighed in at 6.12-lbs total weight, one of which was 4.27-lbs that won him big bass.
