PRO Angler’s Summary:

1. Finishing in first place on the Pro Side was Mike Barnes with Falcon Bass Club. He weighed 22.07-lbs for
his 7-keepers in this two-day tournament, and took home a check for $1757.50, plus a certificate for the new
Ranger 188VX bass boat equipped with a Yamaha 150HP outboard & Minnkota 80-lb thrust trolling motor.
The Ranger / Yamaha / Minnkota package is valued at $34000.

Mike was able to find fish a 100-yard stretch of bank in the mid-lake area during practice on Thursday. This
was where he caught all his seven of his keepers during this event. Running the area both days, he landed
4 keepers on Saturday that placed him in the lead with 13.77-lbs. Then on Sunday, his spot remained
consistent yielding another 3-keepers that weighed in at 8.30-lbs. This gave him a total 2-day weight of
22.07-lbs for the win, finishing 5.45-lbs ahead of the rest of the field.

He reportedly caught all his fish on a brown & purple Chomper’s jig that was tipped with a brown #11 Zoom
Chunk. He used Falcon rods, Shimano Chronarch reels and Bass Pro Shop’s Excel 17-lb mono line. Mike
lists his sponsors as Ranger Boats and Mercury.

2. Placing second in this year’s Classic was Toby Corn, an associate member from West Frankfort, IL. Toby
was also our IBF Angler of the year on the Pro Side. His winning pattern was based on fishing brush piles
on points where water depths ranged from 10-25 feet deep. His 2-day total weight for 6-keepers was 16.62-
lbs, and his bait of choice was a ¾-oz brown and purple Lunker Lure football jig. Toby is sponsored by
Ranger, Yamaha, Jet-A-Marine, Lunker Lure, Hans Caller, and G-Loomis.

3. In third place was John Southey with Illinois Central Bass Club. John made the best of just four bites that he
weighed in during this event. His day one catch was only one keeper, but on day two he pounded the scales
with three keepers, two of which were over the 5-lb mark. With a 2-day total weight of 15.80-lbs, John
sealed the deal on Pro Side Big Bass with a 5.50-lb Lake of Egypt lunker, and third place. He reported
catching his fish in shallow water that was 65-70 degrees while flipping weed lines with a pumpkinseed
   colored Brad Lutz Jig.
