Overall Objectives: Strengthen West African trans-boundary natural resource management to support peace building, biodiversity conservation, knowledge sharing, and policy harmonization
                            through the following interventions:

§ Establish groundwork for focus on climate change and food security for future USAID programming: To facilitate the development of climate change and food
security programs by USAID, STEWARD will develop a pilot program on community based monitoring of carbon stocks on degraded and rehabilitated forest reserves to
assess the feasibility of scaling up such an activity across the region.

§ Biodiversity conservation in trans-boundary priority zones: STEWARD I grants will be implemented and new grants will be awarded to organizations undertaking
complementary biodiversity conservation projects within three STEWARD priority zones. Trans-boundary natural resource management and biodiversity conservation will be
improved through the use of agroforestry techniques, sustainable forest management planning and economic development opportunities in non-timber forest products.

§ Policy improvements for trans-boundary conservation: Activities will consist of conducting a regional needs assessment in collaboration with the Mano River
Union (MRU) Trans-Boundary Natural Resource Management Technical Team which will focus on a regional harmonization process for trans-boundary natural resource
                            management (NRM) and wildlife policies.

§ Promotion and sharing of better management practices in natural resource management: Activities will include public awareness campaigns,
media/information technology, and regional study tours within West Africa and with the Central Africa Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE).
