 Met at least once a month, they listened to
vendor proposals and helped to created
the software list. Gave input on policy.
Goals
 Learning Goal –
 GOAL: Infuse 21st Century learning skills into current curriculum
 Technology Goal –
 GOAL: Transforming current curriculum into digital curriculum and 1:1
learning in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math.
 Teachers
 Teachers need training on how to use technology to make their teaching
easier, more productive and more effective.
      need ease of use
 Teachers need to know that the data is secure. (login password)
      Teachers need access 24/7
 Students
 Students need portability, ease of use, and a task to use them for.
 Students need to be able to save data to a secure storage location.
 Students need security i.e. login, virus protection
      Students need access 24/7
Our proposal:
 Provide laptops to 7-12 staff members
 Provide laptops to Board of Education
 Provide laptops to 9-12 students
 Provide a 24 station laptop cart for 7-8 grade
    use.
 Provide a 24 station laptop cart for grades K-
    6.
 Free up one computer lab so that it can be an
    extra classroom
Partners
 ESU 16 – Software
    training
 ESU 10 – Hardware
    support – Wireless
    infrastructure.
 GovConnections –

Hardware:

 Laptops
 All laptops will need 3 year accidental
coverage, which covers them for everything
    except theft or fire.
 Digital cameras and camcorders will be
available in the library for checkout to staff.
 Teachers will need docking stations, mouse
    and keyboard.
Hardware
  Durable
 We purchased extra warranties that provided for accidental
     drops and electrical surges.
       Parents' coverage
 Homeowners covers because it is leased and the students have it
                24/7
 Parents can purchase a rider called a "Personal Article Policy" - no
                deductible
 We found that 3 years was more cost effective because of
the price of the warranty for the 4th year
 Don't skimp on RAM or Hard drive space.
 Purchased extra batteries and chargers
 Purchased docking stations w/keyboard & mouse for each
     teacher
Software - Choose software that
will emphasize student learning
 Adobe Acrobat Reader
 Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements
 Microsoft Office 2003 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
 Microsoft Student 2006
 Sonic - Record Now
 Vital Source
 Microsoft Internet Explorer
 Macromedia's Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash
 Microsoft Windows XP Professional
 Sophos Anti-Virus
 Windows Media Player
 Windows Movie Maker
 Winnebago Spectrum Client
 Inspiration 8.0
 South-Western keyboarding software
Student Information System
                 PowerSchool – this
                    was already in place
                    and all stakeholders
                    were already
                    comfortable using it.
                      Gradebook
                      Parent Access
                      Teacher Access
                      Student Access
Learning Management System
Solution
  Angel/MyElearning
 ANGEL is a place where the teachers can
tie all the elements of their classes
         together.
 ANGEL is a virtual locker area where
teachers and students can keep all their
         materials together, helping them become
         more efficient and better organized.
 Once teachers have courses in ANGEL
they can easily modify and reuse the
         content in consecutive years.
Infrastructure
 We had three companies come and give bids.
 Contracted with ESU #10 to choose, install
and supply tech support with Cisco System.
 We felt this one area that had to work well.
 We both wanted security and ease of use.
 We wanted it to work seamlessly with our LAN.
Cisco- Secured Wireless Solution
 Our wireless infrastructure is comprised of Cisco
        access points
 HP Procurve Power over Ethernet switches
 CAT6 cabling to all access point locations
 Cisco Wireless LAN Solution Express device to
manage current and future access points.
 Access anywhere in the building and allows users to
move about the building without dropping connection.
 Only authenticated users have access to our LAN
through domain certificates that install once
        authenticated.
     Centrally managed system
Offline file synchronization
 You can make network files available
offline by storing shared files on your
computer so they are accessible when
you are not connected to the network.
 Any shared files or folders on a
      Microsoft network can be made
      available offline
Tech Support
  Created a new position
       ½ time
 Full time in year 2
 Lenovo - 3 year complete care package
  ESU 10 HelpDesk/Odie Tickets
Training
  Staff
  Students
  Parents
  Administrators
  Board Members
Staff Development
                 ESU 16
                 Local
                    teachers/technology
                    coordinators
                 Made a list of
                    mandatory/optional
                    training
Policy/Procedure
 Find out from other schools what works
 Be flexible, realize that things will come up
that will force you change your policy
Funding/Budgeting
 Leased with fair market buyout
  Utilize all sources
       REAP
       SPED
       Title IID
       Grants
       Library
       Textbooks
What would we do differently?

    Spend more time on staff
         development.
How has learning changed
 Creating more digital content to store
    and retrieve.
 Needed a new tape backup system.
 A greater expectation…teachers post
    assignments, notes in MyElearning for
    student review. Students expect the
information to be available to them
    when they need it.
How has learning changed
con’t
 An expectation that the learning day is
    longer. Teachers and students expect
to use their laptops at home in the
evening and on weekends to be
    productive.

Student Quote
 “Working on assignments on the
computer because it is faster and
easier. We could have the teacher's
notes right with us and could refer to
them a lot easier. I learned better by
having my notes with me at all times. “
Student Quote
 “It allowed me to take assignments
home and really fine tune them to get
them where I wanted them. As opposed
to last year when I only got to work on
typed assignments at school for 1 or
    two periods a day. “
