                                    5 Lakhs each to each Science
                                    Department      indicated   below     for
                                    strengthening of infrastructure in terms
                                    of power supply, water supply, safety
                                    equipments, fume hoods, laboratories,
                                    working tables and upgrading of
                                    laboratory.

                                 ANNEXURE – I

                            NSS REPORT 2007- 08
       There are two National Service Scheme (NSS) units in the Jawahar Bharati
Degree College. Each unit comprising 40 volunteers. P.Bhaskara Rao, Lecturer in
Hindi and G.Ramanaiah, Lecturer in Commerce are acting as the Programme
Officers.
       The NSS units participated in the following activities;
1. Sramadanam and Clean&Green:
       In connection with SV University inter collegiate tournaments; the NSS
volunteers cleaned the college campus from Main gate to Library buildings,
removed thorny bushes on 28, 29 and 30th of August. Volunteers rendered their
services in the conduct of tournaments.
2. NSS Day: NSS day was observed by the NSS units on September 24 th Sri. J.
Krishna Prasad Babu, Lecturer in History addressed the gathering and emphasized
the importance of social service, role of volunteers in eradicating social evils and
to make the people aware.
3. AIDS Day: International AIDS day was observed by the NSS units on 1 st
December. A seminar was conducted in this occasion. Founder of Health India
Trust Andry Mamb was the chief guest. In his address he created some awareness
about the symptoms of AIDS, its proliferation and precautions. A film show on
AIDS was also arranged on this occasion. After the seminar a rally was conducted
by the volunteers in the town.


4. Training by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development:
       Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development conducted a training
programme for the NSS programme officers of AP, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and
Kerala states at Sri Perumbudur, Chennai. G.Ravanaiah NSS programme officer of
this college, participated in this programme. He presented a paper on “Right to
Information” act and gave a lecture on “Indira Awas Yojana”

                     WORKSHOP ON ADD ON COURSES
One day Workshop on add on courses was organized on 16-09-2007 by Jawahar
Bharati Degree College. Sri S.Ranganadham, Chief Coordinator, Add on courses,
JB Degree College acted as Chairman. Coordinators from Colleges of SV
University area offering add on courses participated. The workshop discussed
difficulties faced by the colleges with regard to conduct of Examinations,
publication of results and lack of academic schedule. Various measures to improve
the conduct of courses were suggested. The resolutions passed at this workshop
were forwarded to SV University, UGC and Government of Andhra Pradesh, for
further action.



Resolutions adopted at the workshop:

  1. Resolved to request the S.V. University to provide the colleges in S.V.
      University area offering Add-on-courses Annual Academic Schedule for
      Add-on-courses.
  2. Resolved to request the S.V. University to ratify the revised guidelines issued
      by the U.G.C. for Add-on-courses refer D.O.No.Fl-1/2005 (Policy) COP
      dated April, 2006.
  3. Resolved to request the S.V. University to implement the proceedings issued
      by the University regarding the conduct of University Examinations for
      Add-on-courses refer Endorsement No.E/2005 dated 09/11/2005 of S.V.
      University, Tirupati.
  4. Resolved to request the S.V. University to issue Award Certificates to
      students who have passed the certificate course without any further delay.
  5. Resolved to request the S.V. University to convene Board of Studies (BOS)
      meeting for the Add-on-courses to ratify the syllabus framed by the colleges.
  6. Resolved to request the S.V. University to consider the proposal of
      appointing the Lecturers handling Add-on-courses as Examiners theory /
      practical / project work for Add-on-courses. In this connection verified
      particulars can be obtained.
  7. Resolved to request the S.V. University to pay the remuneration for the
      Lecturers for conducting S.V. University Practical & Field work

8. Resolved to request the S.V. University to implement the Revised guidelines

   study along with certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma (All Three) in
   Add-on-courses.
9. Resolved to request the S.V. University to convene a meeting of the
   Principals and Co-ordinators of the colleges in S.V. University area offering
   Career Oriented Add-on-courses to discuss various problems relating to
   Add-on-courses.
10. Resolved to request the University Grants Commission to extend financial
       support to the Career Oriented Courses selected in X plan and which are
       viable for the following items,
              a) Remuneration to guest faculty / internal faculty.
              b) Remuneration to field trip and project work.
              c) Remuneration to Co-ordinators.
              d) Purchase of Equipment.
              e) Books, journals and Lab facilities.
 11.      Resolved to recommend the U.G.C. to direct the Universities to award
         B.A., B.Sc, / B.Com. Hon ours Degree to students who pass certificate /
         Diploma / Advance Diploma in Career Oriented Add-on-courses iilong
         with their regular degree.
   12. Resolved to request the Universities lo permit the colleges offering
          Career Oriented Add-on-courses w.e.f. 2007-2008 to draw expenditure
          necessary for sending students to field work & practical training from the
          grants sanctioned by the U.G.C. for Add-on-courses.
   13. Resolved to request the U.G.C. to conduct a workshop on Career
          Oriented Add-on-courses with Co-ordinators.
   14. Resolved to request the U.G.C. to prevail upon the State Government to
          fill up all the grant- in-aid vacancies in college offering Career Oriented
          Add-on-courses.

15. Resolved to request APSCHE to monitor the implementation of Career Oriented

   Add-on-courses by Universities sponsored by the U.G.C. in colleges and

   delay, so as not to cause inconvenience to the students and for better response

   from students.

National Seminar on “ROLE OF INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE C ELL IN
SUSTENANCE AND ENHANCEMENT OF QUALITY EDUCATION IN POST
ACCREDITATION SCENARIO – CHALLENGES ”
        A two day National Seminar was conducted in Jawahar Bharati degree
College on 27,28th January 2007 sponsored by NAAC entitled “Role of Internal
Quality Assurance Cell in Sustenance and Enhancement of Quality Education in
Post Accreditation Scenario – Challenges”
        Prof. P.V.Arunachalam, Former Vice Chancellor of Dravidian University,
Prof. V.Siva Sankara Reddy, Former Rector, SV University, Sri.Chukka. Ramaiah
a prominent Academician& Member AP Legislative Council, Dr.R.Seshadri
Naidu, Director of Staff College, SVUniversity, Prof.V.Rama Krishna, Rtd.Prof.
in History, Central University, Prof. A. Murali Prof. in History Central University,
Dr. T.Subrahmanyam, Lecturer in English, JB Degree College participated and
acted as Resource Persons.
        The seminar was started with the inaugural address by Prof. P.V.
Arunachalam. Issues on Several constrains in getting quality education, various
problems that are faced by the teachers to acquire good knowledge in their
respective subjects, various approaches to impart good education, ways to improve
the quality of education, ways to improve the performance of NAAC graded
colleges and Universities were discussed in this seminar.
        Several papers were presented in this seminar. One technical session was
completely allotted for students to present their papers. Prof. P. Murali Vice
Chancellor of SVUniversity attended as chief guest for the Valedictory function.
Sri P. Ranganadham Coordinator, IQAC acted as the Coordinator for this seminar.

                           ANNEXURE - V
                         Best Practices

1) The college provides education to the students belonging mainly to the
   two backward districts of Nell ore and Prakasam. 81% of the students
   belong to economically and socially backward classes.

2) At present 1126 male students and 220 women students are residing in
   the hostels making up 55.48% of the total student strength .Of them
   83.80% belong to the SC,ST and BC community .


3) Remedial coaching is offered to the students belonging to SC and ST
   partly utilizing U.G.C. Plan period development funds and partly the
   subsidy provided by the managing society.

4) Jawahar Bharati Teachers‟ Welfare Trust and Jawahar Bharati Non-
   Teaching Staff Welfare Trust are the two unique welfare organizations
   perhaps only of its kind existing in colleges in Andhra Pradesh .These
   trusts have been promoting the welfare of the members and they have
   been rendering financial assistance to the survivors of the members who
   died during their service.

5) Dr.Ram Centre for Social Work and Culture is a unique organization
   rendering Social service and promoting fine arts.

6) Long before NSS was introduced, “Visvodaya Seva Samiti” involved the
   students and teachers of the college in social work.

7) The teachers of the college are recruited purely on merit while following
   the norms of Reservation.

8) To encourage the students in their academic pursuits and to motivate
   them for participation in Co-curricular and Extra Curricular activities, the
   college gives 153 prizes out of which 71 are Endowment Prizes, 25 are
   Academic Prizes and 57 are for Extra Curricular activities.

 9) To encourage meritorious students some Lecturers of the college
     instituted Endowment Prizes for the students.

10) To encourage and promote artistic and creative talents in the students, the
     college organizes Week-long Cultural Festival. On this occasion eminent
     poets, dancers, musicians, stage artists, cine directors are honored.


11) The college observes all important days such as Mathematics Day,
     Children‟s Day, Republic Day, Independence Day, Dr.Ambedkar‟s Birth
     Day. Ozone Day, World AIDS Day, Human Rights Day, NSS Day, NCC
     Day and Education Day.


12) The Alumni of the college serve their alma mater as Lecturers, Principals,
     and   Vice-Principals and      as    members    of various            Management
     Committees.


13) The former teachers of the college play a pivotal role in the management
     as members of Visvodaya Executive Council, General Council,
     Correspondents of Jawahar Bharati Degree and Jawahar Bharati Junior
     College.


14) Teachers of Jawahar Bharati Degree College rendered yeoman service for
     promoting the welfare of college teachers Sri.M.J.Manikya Rao, former
     Lecturer in Mathematics, popularly known as MJM, rendered invaluable
     service for the teaching community as General Secretary and Advisor of
     Affiliated College Teachers Association (A.P.) ,General Secretary, All
     India Federation of University and College Teachers organizations
     (AFIUCTO) and as Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and
     Sri.M.Madhava Rao former Lecturer in English served the cause of
     teachers as member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.


 15) Visvodaya has the unique tradition of honoring eminent scholars, artists,
     poets, educationalists, Philanthropists and social workers by conferring
     on them Visvodaya Life Membership.

16) Visvodaya Foundation has been set up with an initial fund of Rs.55 lakhs
   and the interest earned on it will be utilized for community service, sports
   and games, financial assistance to meritorious students, remedial
   coaching to students of ST and d SC and memorial Lecturers.

17) The college adopted seminar system and Tutorial System for greater
   involvement of students in discussions and the teachers to play the role of
   friend, philosopher and guide.

18) Lunar Society, Science Club, Political Club, Devi Prasad Arts College
   and University without Walls were started to encourage free discussion
   and exchange of ideas.

19) Smt.Vuchuru Krupamayee an Alumnus and NRI of the college donated
   Rs.2 lakhs the annual interest on which is to be utilized for providing tri-
   cycles to the physically challenged students. She also has donated
   equipment to provide physio therapy facilities to the physically
   challenged students.

20) The college constructed a Check Dam on the campus covering an area of
   nearly 8000 sft and dug to a depth of 6ft to collect rain water flowing
   from the forests at times of heavy rains. The project was under taken
   partly utilizing financial assistance from the Government through „Neeru-
   Meeru‟ scheme and providing work force. This has helped in a large way
   in preventing the adjoining parts of the town getting inundated by floods.
   Also it helped the ground water table to rise.

21) The college has started a yoga and health club for the benefit of members
   of the faculty in 2003.

22) The college has started a green corps with certain members of staff and
   interested students as volunteers for spread of environment awareness and
   measures for preservation of green to save the earth.

                             Place ment Cell 2007-08

   For the academic year Placement cell is reconstituted with the following staff

       Government of Andhra Pradesh has introduced the concept of Jawahar
Knowledge Centers (JKC) to impart industry graded skills to the students and to
enhance their employability. This programme is being implemented by the
Institute for Electronic Governance (1EG) established by Information Technology
and Communications (IT &C) Department. Government of Andhra Pradesh. Our
college also enrolled as a member institution and got Jawahar Knowledge centre
by paying annual fee of Rs. 10.000/-. A total of seventeen students enrolled under
this programme during this year. They will be given training for attending
interviews and competitive examinations. .

       Apart from this we got permission for starting a Jawahar knowledge centre
(under Commissioner Collegiate Education) and trained students for Placements
under Project genesis by Infosis Company. Ultimately six of our students got
placements under this programme.

       36 of our students attended Career awareness and Recruitment drive
conducted by APSCHE Hyderabad and S.V.University. Tirupati from 17-11-07 to
18-11-07. Out of the one was selected for placement By ICICI bank.

Dr.C.V.Narasimha murthy attended “Inauguration programme on Infosis Project
Genises” at D.K Govt. Degree College. Nellore on 1-11-07.

       Twenty of our students attended written test conducted by WIPRO
Company at Krishna Chaithanya College, Nellore on 1 st and 2nd December. None
of them got placement in this programme.

       On 17-12-07 a talent test of scholarship was conducted by Vincx Institute
Nellore in our college. The scholarships are meant for training to various jobs and
coaching for competitive examinations.

       Some of the second & Final year students along with few old students of
B.A., B.Com & B.Sc were sent to Shiksha Job Fair at Jagan‟s & P.G. Degree
College. Nellore for all subjects on 2 nd & 3rd February 2008. In this programme
three of our old students were selected for placement in software companies.

       A One day Mock selections were conducted to students by Madanapalli
Institute of Technology &science. Angallu. Madanapalli on 8-2-08 which consists
of written test. Group discussion. Stress Interview, sales talk. Vakchathuryam, &
quiz. Two of our students were sent to this programme.

   A review meeting was held with students on 22-01-08 and Students
congratulated the Rector and Principal for getting JKC center to our college and
for giving coaching to students through JKC. The students who secured jobs were
introduced to Rector by the Principal and Programme officer. Then Rec tor
Visvodaya reviewed the placement cell activities and requested students to give
their opinions about the training Programmes. Elaborate discussions were made
with students regarding the given training Programmes and he assured students
that the training programs will be much more attractive and helpful to students in
future. At the end the students felicitated the Rector and Principal with garlands.
Shawl and Memento. Rector reiterated that his active cooperation would be there
in future Training and Placement programs In conclusion the students requested
for the following items.

   1. Training should be given not only in communicative English but
       also in Analytical skills.
   2. Additional computer lab slots are required for students.
   3. College timing should be changed according to the JKC training.
   4. Course material is to be provided students.
   5. Broad Band Internet facility is to be taken for college.
